General Carowinds discussion

I remember when the backward track was all the rage and the lines were long to try riding backwards. This no longer seems to be the case. Would the park benefit from turning the coaster back around and having two coasters that actually race once again?

Thoughts? New ideas?

They could have every other cart backwards or half and half. Would it make any difference though?

No, leave it as it is. Backwards is actually more thrilling then forwards plus you don't have to wait as long. Having both ride backwards would decrease the amount of people wanting to ride.

I think it's impossible to have only some cars face backwards. I think it's only designed to all be facing forwards or backwards.

Well, they propably could do a mixed train, but the expense is propably not worth it at this point.

But you say the Backwards train never has a wait... that's my point. Why keep something open that isn't drawing the crowds anymore. If the forward train is getting the lines, then two going forward would even the lines out again, I don't think it would decrease attendance much. Originally turning one backwards increased it, but that does not seem to happen now. Two going forward would actually make them racers again, which is an advantage in one respect as well.

I do agree that backwards adds a different thrill, but I think the novelty has wore off.

I Think Thunder Road Needs to painted. It looks like a pile of Firewood without White Paint. The Hurler looks good without paint, but Thunder Road was designed to be visually pleasing to the eye as well as fun.

The <a href='http://www.coastertown.com/Paramount/PKI/ConeyMall/Racer04.jpg' target='_blank'>Racer</a>, <a href='http://www.coastertown.com/Paramount/PKD/VC/VC_PKD_011.jpg' target='_blank'>Rebel Yell</a>, <a href='http://www.coastertown.com/Six%20Flags/SFoG/CottonStates/GASM1.jpg' target='_blank'>Great American Scream Machine at SFOG</a> all look great painted White.

I think that Carowinds should return the ride to it's glory days and re-paint it Red, White, and Blue.

If they ever turned the backwards train to forward i would not ever go back to the park again. Doing that is the most stupid idea i have heard yet. Leave it be is what i say the old coaster runs good like it is.

I like having the variety, so I definitely say keep it the way it is. You get a different ride experience on each side, with airtime in different spots. I'd like to see them race AND keep a forwards and backwards train.

One reason the backwards side SOMETIMES has a shorter line is that people are scared of it. Often times I hear people going up the line talking about not wanting to ride it backwards due to being scared, and at the top of the ramps they'll go to the forward side. Eventually you figure at least some of them will try it, meaning having the backwards train gives them a "new" thrill ride to try sometime.

If they change anything, paint it and race consistently.

This is what I meant to say.

Repainting may draw slightly large crowds, but I wouldn't count on it. The old color scheme seems to fit well with the ride, though I'm used to the current color scheme.

Well getting a little off topic here talking about the colors, Thunder Road being painted white is a like beating a dead horse. I mean the other coasters would look fine in white but when i think thunder i think dark colors. So in saying that i think white isnt a good color for a coasters who's name is concern with darkness..........now i can see it back gray or black or natural wood looking colors (like what it has now). Everything cant always be the same..........and im quite sure it was hell keeping that coaster looking a good clean white. ( i guess ya wonder why you dont see too many white coasters now-a day)

who feels Thunder Road colors are fine now.........

How did they change the color from white to natural wood, did it just weather naturally and they never bothered to repaint it? or did they scrape all the paint off?

Personaly, I think that when this new flying coaster opens, then all the rides including Thunder Road will have huge lines. I dont think that it doesnt have a line because ppl are scared, or that forwards, and backwards thing. I am a kid, and most the kids in my area Dont like Carowinds because, there last major attraction was Top Gun(1999). When the new Flyer opens, then you will see a crowd. I live in South Carolina, just 1 hour, and 30 min from Carowinds. All the Kids say that if Carowinds doesnt step it up, then they will start going to Six Flags more. Six Flags is the same distance as it is to Carowinds for me.

In 1989, when the park replaced the ride's skid brakes with squeeze brakes, the park decided to sandblast all the white paint off of it, leaving only Blue Handrails and Red Rails. It kept that scheme until a few years back when they took the red paint off and gave it pastel yellow and purple hand rails, which are starting to fade out themselfs.

CoasterBruh...if you had seen Rebel Yell the year (1999, I believe) that they repainted it white, you'd have seen one of the nicest looking coasters around. It just stood out and was very eyecatching. Although I'd love to see TR painted that color, I don't think it'll happen. I've grown use to the natural state its in now.

Although I agree to keeping TR the way it is, I really find it hard to believe someone would stop going to Carowinds because the park decided to turn the train around to it's original position.

Is that the only reason you go to PC?
