It is still up for sale and has not been sold. If I was a beating man, I would say it will never be sold or open anymore. I will try to drive by this friday since I have a meeting in Pigeon Forge that morning for work.

I guess I need to pay more attention to what I write in the future or try not to reply after looking at some blueprints. Leave it to me to write something like that. I meant to sat betting.

I find it funny that this little park generates so much interest on the internet.

I guess it's like Drachenfire, if you never got to ride it you think it was the best Arrow ever.

Hopefully it will reopen (I need the credits).

^Well, I see the potential in Ghost Town and it makes me wish I had the funds to reopen it. Sure, it was rough around the edges, especially in it's latter years, but the potential of the theme and location just beg for greatness.

Oh, and on the topic of Drachen Fire... I was one of the few who really loved that ride. Of course, my perception may have been warped, since I was much younger when I rode it. Still, I think all those years just sitting and being totally visible from the train is what really made people miss it.

The fact that it did not dive to the water at some point is what killed it, truth be known. lol

Drachen Fire was OK, but it was prettier to look at then it felt. For those that rode it when it opened in 1992, the section that was most problematic was the loop following the trim brake. Here is a great photo showing that loop with the train in it. Not only was this one of the more painful parts of the ride, the joints had to be constantly re-welded from the abnormal forces. Busch eventually removed this portion altogether which is obvious in this aerial photo. DF was just another in a long list of blunders from Arrow, IMO.

oops! Sorry to stray off topic.....
Back to Ghost Town In The SHY..

Of course, I'm gonna be different and say I just loved Drachen Fire. I had no problems with it before they removed the corkscrew and never got to ride it after it was removed. I absolutely loved the first drop and the first inversion. That one visit, I just stayed on it all day. I really hate that its gone.

OT...

I liked Drachenfire myself. It wasn't great and to me the biggest problem was the lack of loops.

I personally dislike corkscrews (even Top Gun's :o ) so that was a strike against it.

But it was a fun ride overall, the little dip out of the station and then that huge corkscrew after the initial drop off the lift were both fun.

The glow-in-the-dark trains were the best thing. Why didn't anyone else do that?

It looks like Ghost Town will open in May 2007!

http://www.ghosttowninthesky.com/

On another note, I wish there was a clear plan for the future of Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock, NC. Tweetsie is in danger of having to move because the lease on their land expires in 2007.

I was an entertainment cast member at Tweetsie in 2005 and 2006. I would hate to see Tweetsie be forced out of the area.

The Tweetsie Railroad theme park sits on 200 acres of prime Blowing Rock real estate... which is the major problem. Land value is so high in Watauga County, so it might be too expensive for Tweetsie to renew the lease. Unless a resolution is reached... Tweetsie Railroad will no longer be a part of the area.

If Ghost Town can re-open, I hope Tweetsie can find similar results.

Yeah, plus Tweetsie sits on 3 different plots of land. That was a good idea! lol

I really enjoyed Tweetsie this year and hope that it will be able to stay put.

Here's my story I wrote after my trip.
