Dukefanswimmer and I were at carowinds today. At least a half dozen rides were down all day, and half a dozen more didn't open till 11. Even worse, Top Gun was only running one train.

I have seen six flags parks do better than this. Attractions should be open, and not just act as expensive scenery items. A year ago, all attractions ran as much as possible, with the maximum number of trains. Carowinds is certainly doing better now (attendance-wise and probably financially) than it was a year ago, and there is no excuse for so many closed rides. These kinds of operations are completely unacceptable and I am very disappointed with cedar fair.

This happened to me last year and it was becasue a lot of their staff has already left and gone back to school or college.

It's hard to run rides when you don't have the staff to do it.

I went yesterday (the 16th) and the park was completely dead with no lines for anything (including Borg), yet they were running 2 trains on every coaster. I've seen very few parks do that.

I'll give two thumbs down for the trip report.

Anywho, why don't you tell us how long you had to wait in line for everything you rode and what were the 1/2 dozen that were shut down all day.

And it's nice that while most parks are cutting hours, ours still stays open till 10 on Sat. and 8 on Sun.

Hey Roller,

Please - if you want to keep this crap up in EVERY FREAKING THREAD - could you just start a "AntiCarowindsZone" website and go there? I for one have grown tired of seeing your little diatribes pop up around every corner. Maybe you could start RollerWinds and run that how you like. Whatever you do, move on with life.

Know what? From what you wrote about what happened, you *should* have been fired. You said you were helping a guest, and that that is what they train you to do. Well, yes, and no. You left your *primary* duty - which was the safety of the people on the coaster train - to do something that was not a priority. Tell the woman you'd check her kid's height AFTER you were done checking restraints. That you got stuck IN the queue line behind the safety gates without having checked the restraints put you in the wrong, even if you had good intentions. Now, the rest of the crew had issues if they dispatched without seeing you on the platform giving an OK - which you couldn't have done being in the queue line. If they weren't fired as well, they should've been - at least the driver. But you were clearly in the wrong - and if you act in real life anything like you do here, I'm honestly surprised you lasted as long as you did.

It is NOT simple to "hire more employees". Like many enthisasses, you haven't got a clue about running a business - and don't grasp the concept that amusement parks ARE a business. Any business that relies on seasonal help has problems with staffing when people start back to college, then take another hit when high schools start up. Most businesses can hire replacements, but amusement parks are going to weekend-only operation when school returns to session.

You can't simply hire a ton of people to work in the student workers' place on the weekdays at the end of the season, as not very many people want to work for just 2 weeks. Sure, they could work weekends until the end of the season - but what of the people who already work weekends? Cut their hours for the new hires, they may leave - but don't give the new hires enough hours, they may leave. Try to give everyone hours, and you lose too much money. The easiest solution is to trim back operations a bit - and opening rides an hour late is not the end of the world. The only real alternative is to not open AT ALL.

They posted info about the operation limits on the website, so are being upfront about it. From what I saw, they planned to have ALL the coasters running except for backwards T-Road. Most of the other attractions listed would have very limited ridership on a slow day. A handful of rides were to open late - none of which are terribly busy first thing in the morning on Sundays when I usually go, so I can't see it being a huge problem when even fewer people are there this week.

Sorry for the rant.....

Way to go Thunderfan.....I mean Rollernut. It makes me wonder if that college that you attend is either failing you or you are not doing anything there.

Look on the brightside now. You can restart the CPO and get married now.

BYE-BYE Roller
