Ok I know only a few of you on here probably ever made it to this park before it's demise but I was just curious how the park was when it was operating at full tilt.

It looks like they had about 20 flat rides, a dark ride and two coasters.

When Blackpool owned it that was probably the last hurrah for the park. The park itself was a fun get away for the evening with several things to offer at the time. The Tea cups were my first "hurler" ride. I remember spinning so fast I think I sprayed the operator. The huge Ferris wheel was the last one I'd ever ride. I only rode it because it was huge for the time and to this day I will not get on one. The overall park, to me, just had this county fair feel but set up a little more permanent, if you get what I mean.

The main thing that I remember from the park was all the trees, mainly towards the back and thinking that was pretty cool. You know being in Myrtle Beach during the summer and on asphalt with no shade sucks. Maybe sampfox can help me a little but I also seem to remember a fair amount of trees around the Black Witch coaster.

There were alot of bad things that went on also at the park and you always had this feeling someone or something was watching you. You know how those Urban Legends are.

But yea, I enjoyed the park in it's hay-day. Living in Crystal Lakes for 10 years I went often when it was open.

If you're curious:

<a href='http://www.defunctparks.com/parks/SC/Magicharbor/magicharbor.htm' target='_blank'>Magic Harbor</a>

<a href='http://www.rcdb.com/id1525.htm' target='_blank'>Corkscrew</a> was moved to the Pavillion then to Salitre Magico in Bogotá, Cundinamarca Colombia

The Caterpillar was a <a href='http://www.bannister.org/coasters/manuf/pinfari.htm' target='_blank'>Pinfari</a> Big Apple roller coaster, according to RCDB.com

The Black Witch, from what I remember was a Galaxy / mouse type.

Swampfox or anyone feel free to correct me.

I guess I should have included that link. lol

It's weird all the stuff and deaths that happened there. No wonder people called it Haunted Harbor.

Is there anything in that spot today?

Looking at the map it seemed like it was right before the airforce base on the ocean side. Was it kind of inbetween 17 bus and 17 bypass? Like where 17 business/Ocean Blvd starts.

^I'm pretty sure the BLACK WITCH was a Schwarzkopf <a href='http://schwarzkopf.coaster.net/ESwildcatGF.htm' target='_blank'>WILDCAT.</a> It was broken down when I was there.

I only visited this park twice. My first time was in 1975 when the Corkscrew opened. I was so excited I could hardly stand it!! I remember thinking "man the parks gonna be so crowded and the lines will be sooo long".

Well, the place was DEAD I tell ya. We stayed on the Corkscrew until we got sick of it!

Yes, the park had a lot of really big trees that supplied lots of shade. Even as a 15 year old I wasn't too impressed with this place though. I was in this for the thrill rides and they didn't have too many of those. The log flume really sucked too. It was bascially an oval. I've seen better ones at the fair.

Two rides that do stand out that I enjoyed at this park were the <a href='http://members.aol.com/k9660r/manleap.jpg' target='_blank'>LEAP FROG</a> and the <a href='http://members.aol.com/k9660r/UFOride1.jpg' target='_blank'>UFO</a>. The photo links aren't the ones at Magic Harbor. I have never seen these 2 rides any where since then although the UFO was eventually moved to Sun Fun Amusement Park in North Myrtle Beach.

During the 80's & early 90's I would always make a point to drive down to Surfside Beach to take a look at the park from Hwy. 17. You could easily pull into the parking lot and get a closer look. Too bad the park didn't make it.

I believe it's all campground now.

It was actually located after the old Airbase. Going south om 17 where the red light is (old Mrtle Beach grand prix ) the park was a couple miles further down.

I rode Corkscrew as well, although at the Pavilion.

I remember thinking that coaster was HUGE. lol

Too bad the Schwarzkopf coaster didn't survive.

I absolutely loved this park when I was a kid. At night, the park had a wonderful atmosphere especially if it was foggy at night. I loved the set up of the park and the buildings there. I'm gonna ramble on it:

The chair lift was great with the island turnaround. At night, it was absolutely spooky if you got stuck on it if the ride went down.

The log flume wasn't much but I loved how it went in and out of the buildings.

I can barely remember the dark ride but it was fun. It was located right across from the entrance to the sky ride.

I loved the flat rides that were to the right when you can in (pre Black Witch.) I remember the UFO which I never got enough nerve to ride. This was back in my pre-coaster riding days.

My cousin, who I called absolutely crazy, stood in line for the Corkscrew for a long time to ride it. I told her she was insane for riding it. Look at me now....

I wasn't crazy about the place when Blackpool took over. We always stayed at Lakewood so I was over there about every night hanging out. Since my folks live there, I've heard all kinds of stories about the place. Devil worshippers supposedly hung out in the ruins. There was a fire that finished everything off. I use to ride the golf cart over there just to look at the ruins before it was bulldozed and became campsites (the place was divided up between Lakewood and PirateLand.)

It feels really funny now to ride up on the cart in there and think about the park.

For quite a while after the park closed, the gate was decorated with clowns, and I believe the Ferris Wheel stood for a few years. Now its a little harder to locate (I have a friend that is going to go look at the area when we go down for the Pavilion's final day). There is a camp ground there now. It is on the highway (ocean side) going south.

I never got to go there, unfortunately, that I ever recall. I went by there plenty of times after it was already closed. The park was just unfortunate, with accidents and what not, and I really wish that the owners of Blackpool had been able to keep the park and keep it open. Could you imagine a Blackpool U.S.A.? That would be great!

Myrtle beach area has had quite a few small parks. Unfortunately, they've also lost quite a few, and now are losing thier most popular.
