Well, I fully agree that variety is best. I do think they should actually race, forward or backward.

It just seems that the line is so low for the backward track is all. But I guess that's what keeps the forward train so packed. It does offer people a better reason to repeat the ride though.

Anyone know whether Carowinds or Kings Dominion was first to go backwards?

Acutualy yes it is it is a classic coaster. Besides top gun the others i dont like. It seams to me that all of the coasters they carowinds has and wants to build is out dated. I mean come on think about it who builds a coaster under 150ft anymore. I know this is off topic but hey it is the truth.

LOL LOL are you hearing yourself. What coaster is out dated?? coasters dont have expiration dates on them. Seems to me that all the coasters built during the 2003 year were under 150 (Correct me of im wrong)except Top Thrill Dragster...........and so far all the confirmed coasters being built this year are all under 100 feet with the exception of Silver Bullet, Storm Runner and Star Trek: <span style='color:green'>Nemesis</span> its not about the height but its about the whole experience man. And from the looks of it parks also realize that!!

I actually think TCFKAS (Star Trek:Something ) will get old, removed, and sold to Gold Reef City (wonder where I got that park )long before people even think about taking Top Gun out. Almost all B&M's will be considered classics in 50 years.

I think only excelent coasters don't have expiration dates on them.

I doubt Top Gun will be here in 40 years. Things change, unfortunatly. It might outlast Stealth, since flying coasters are just the flavor of the month currently.

I can't wait to see how people react when some park decides to scrap their B&M for the latest thing.

I found this an interesting post and decided to check on your theory to see if anyone does build coasters over 150 feet and I came up with afew. I will list them for you:

Golden Lion at Tivoli Gardens which is a mere 92 feet tall
Silver Bullet at Knott's which is 146 feet
Thunderhead at Dollywood which is around 100 feet
Unknown SLC at Magic Springs at 110 feet
Plus a number of parks are building Wild Mouses (non-spinning and spinning) which are under your 150.

Guess those parks did not get t he memo.

Just go to the parks and enjoy yourself. What is the fun if of always looking at the negative of a said park. Maybe it is time to find a new hobby.

size dosen't mater,lots of like,50 ft tall ones are good, and name 1 coaster that is out dated at carowinds.

I'm not saying it's out-dated, but Vortex is kinda wimpy compaired to Mantis and Riddler's Revenge. It's got only two inversions and it's so short, also like all the other coasters at carowinds, it's kinda short.

Look at the footprint that they put the Vortex in. They ordered something to fit that space. Plus, its one of the earliest B&M stand-ups. So, they were just getting their foot in the water. If they wanted something bigger, I'm sure they'd have gotten one.

Look at the Georgia Scorcher, its in an even more cramped space than the Vortex and its a whole lot better than the Vortex by a long shot. Just because Mantis and RR are bigger doesn't mean they're better. I liked Mantis a lot but stand ups, to me, are better in short form.

Talk about Vortex being outdated.....I'd have to say that Shockwave PKD is way outdated. Thankgod for B&M's version of the standup, because Togo's version sucks.

I don't think there are many differences in Georgia Scorcher's Standup B&M trains and Vortex's Standup B&M Trains. (Other than the Hulls and # of cars per train) GS was built in 1999, Vortex in 1992.

Vortex? Your Favorite ride is Vortex? I guess i can see that but not in my book i cant enjoy it because i get my nuts crunched and my neck broken at the same time. This is why me and my cousin calls Vortex the nut cracker.

this is what i don't get,everybody says vortex is so rough,and when i rode it this year,IT WAS THE SMOOTHEST RIDE THERE! not i single part of it hurt me.and besides top gun it was the best ride there.


and cephas note that VOrtex was probably one of B&M's first coasters,they're company hasn't been around that long,i think it was 1990.
