I don't think we've ever done a thread like this, unless it's just been so long ago I've forgotten it.

When was your visit to the park and how old were you (if you were a kid).

Unfortunatly I was 1 when I first visted the park (its first year of operation in 73).

So I don't recall anything of course.

But I do remember going back in the late 70's and the Hanna Barbera show they had with all the charecters.

Yay for me in diapers. <a href='http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2424823750054618143dFFFbD' target='_blank'>Image</a>

I was 4 years old.... First year that Drop Zone was operating. I can only remember the little balloon ride in the kiddy section, and my dad riding drop zone.

Hmmm, I can't really recall THE first time I visited clearly - many of those early visits run together these days. My first visit was in opening year - 1973 - when I was 6.

Something that HAD to happen in the first few years, if not the very first, was getting "stuck" on the train for 10-15 minutes. This was due to a cow or bull being on the tracks down the line. They just had to wait for it to move. And yes, the train DID go under the bridge!

Probably my favorite thing in the park on those first visits was the Pirate Ship. At least I remember it most of the stuff that isn't there anymore from the early days. I was too young to realize that it was mainly a gift shop - it seemed REALLY cool at the time. The entire Pirate Island area was very cool for a six-year-old.

Other things I remember from the first few years - the Skytower, the Sternwheeler, the Sky Buckets, the Monorail, and the Jalopies (not sure if those were there to start with but I think they were). Oh, and I definitely remember the covered bridge and the water wheel beside it from back then too.

I think I was 6 when I first went to the park in 86. My recollections were the monorail, skycars, train, jalopy cars, swings, hanna barbera land, Smurf Island, The smelly boats, White Lightening, Cyclone, Pirate Island. Boomerang Bay was a pool that was closed cos someone died in it the year before or something...at least thats what my parents told me.
