Rumors are going around, though highly unlikely, as the enclosed article mentions, that Disney plans to build another theme park resort in Brunswick County, not far for Wilmington, NC. Here is a URL to the article:

<a href='http://www.wwaytv3.com/Global/story.asp?S=5025492&nav=menu70_2' target='_blank'>http://www.wwaytv3.com/Global/story.asp?S=...92&nav=menu70_2</a>

Such rumors about Disney building a theme park resort in the Wilmington, NC area do not surprise me a bit! There had been somewhat of a film/TV industry in the Wilmington area off and on for the last 20 years, which peaked in the mid-to-late 1990's. Many movies and TV shows have been made there, though this has declined a bit since the late 1990's. The TV shows Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill are/were filmed there, as was the pilot epsiode of Touched By an Angel. This, as well as its close proximity to the #2 rated vacation spot in the U.S., Myrtle Beach, SC (71 miles southwest of Wilmington) make this rumor quite predictable!

More about the movie and TV studio in Wilmington, as well as the film industry in this area in general, can be found at the link I enclosed below:

This is a very old rumor that has been going around for years.

If Disney was going to build, they would have announced something. Not just had a rumor pop up in a local newspaper.

Even the article you posted said it wasn't true.

No, I highly doubt it. I have heard that rumor as well my friend even tried to tell me they already have the access road built to it...NO. The last I heard was that in the 60s or 70s Disney did buy a lot of land across the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge in Brunswick county but after surveying the land and learning that the entire coastal area was basically marsh land they got rid of it. Now I do not know if this is true or not, but it makes more since. The land in the Wilmington area is very marshy and floods easily. Another popular rumor in the late 90's and early mellenium was that Six Flags bought Jubilee Park (small amusemnt park with waterslides, carnival rides and batting cages) and they also bought the 100 or so acres next to the Zoo in Wilmington. They were gonna relocate the rides from Jubilee there and we were gonna get a six flags.....not true. I think every town has rumors like this, i sometimes get involved but never overly excited.

Yeah, I'm sure Disney bought the land and then surveyed it to find it was useless.

If that's the case then I'm sure Disney still owns it because no one else would be stupid enough to band swamp land without first having it surveyed.

Anyone can see that this land is swampy and marshy without a survey.

I'm guessing if in fact they ever purchased any land in Brunswick County, it would have been closer to the SC state line to capitalize on the Myrtle Beach Tourist. Somewhere between Bolivia and Shallotte.
