General Carowinds discussion

I have heard that carowinds have closed down their campground and they are going to add some space to carowinds with new coasters by 2006-2010. This would be pretty cool.

This is what they need, more rides, coasters and more space for fun

if this is true, how big is the campground? i've never seen it.

that's where they could put all the flat rides, like relocate screamweaver,Rocket Power Air Time, and frenzoid with adding a zipper, super loop, and a topspin.

Well, as you can see from this satelite picture, their going to have to expand the park quite a bit before it evan scrapes the outer edge of the campground, not to mention re-route several service roads and the back entrance to the bus and Paladium parking lots.

I think the best idea is to move the employee parking lot over to the campground site, and then expand into the space that the EP occupies. Then, to expand the Theme Park portion of Carowinds, they could use the overflow parking behind Thunder Road and build out along side it. Then, they could coonect the two sections down at Thunder Road's turnaround, and create another midway-loop.

I 've camped there and it is a pretty big campground. Between the the campground and carowinds there is a space about 1.3 miles apart. Which will alow at least 3 coasters and many flats.

A big new section at the park in the future

This is soo funny because last night i was looking at a this site. I put in carowinds address and after some manupulation of the size you can see the whole park, clearly. I notice, as Montumax stated, that there is a large plot of land between frendzoid and waterworks. I never noticed the campgrounds but i encourage everyone to go to that site and take a good look at carowinds and see what land is avaliable then all the minds will go crazy when you see how much land they have inside the park and the size of the parking area beside thunder road!! Heck i even think a good size hyper-twister (a-la-goliath) can fit there (yeah i said it  ) But if the stretch is that far from the park to the campground then i dont see the park doing all that work to stretch the park all the way out there............but you never know........

Post No. 96.............countdown to 100th post (again heh heh heh!! :D :D )

Sorry folks, no park expansion in this direction at this time.
The campground is closed due to the cost of upgrading the electrical structure to standards [code] for today. It doesn't turn much profit with the exception of race weekends at the [Charlotte] Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Sites have 30 amp service, which was fine 20 years ago, but now motor homes require 50-60 amps of service. Multiply that upgrade by about 200 sites the expense is unfeasible.

My parents called for a reservation and they said they were expanding carowinds later in the future and that they shut the park down

They should theme a section to The Untouchables and have old warehouse/Batman: The Ride type themeing. They could have dueling woodies like Gwazi called Untouchables:Chasing Capone, you could be on either the Ness side or the Capone side! They could even have a stunt show like at SFOG.

Go Panthers! Super Bowl, here we come!

"IF" they shut down the campground permanently then I can see the entire employee parking and other buildings being relocated to the former campground to allow for easier expansion. The problem I have of Carowinds just converting the campground into something else is the fact that the employees. Trucks, etc..., use that road between the actual park and the campground. This alone would make it a bit difficult and possibly unsafe to just convert the campground and allow the public to walk back and forth. I went to the campground towards the end of last year just to see it as the rumors were starting to float around of it being shut down. It is quite a big area and nicely wooded for expansion. (Lego's in the Woods) lol
I sent 3 pictures to Jonathan of aerial views of the park showing the tremendous amount of land they have. Hopefully he can post them somehow to let you all see. Or if you want you can email me and I'll send them to you.
What I would like to see is a multilevel parking deck built immediately after the Carolina pottery and at least one nice resort along the top side just before the Bus parking. That would leave them the entire parking area we have now witch is about 1/2 to 3/4 the size of the park. Imagine what you could do with that amount of space?
