General Carowinds discussion

Anyone know what year the light activated shooting gallery was removed and where it went?

It was the one that had the sign that said "No Flash Photography" and inevitably someone would flash one off just to get the whole thign to go wild all at once...

I was wondering if anyone knew what happened to it and if there are ANY of these still around anywhere?

I'm into nostalgia :) a pic of this thing would be nice if anyone has one...

For some reason I have a good many photos of that thing. I wonder why that could be?

This is the only one I could find, though.

Thanks J... I seem to remember it more run down... If you run across anymore old photos please post them... I miss some of the old school stuff at Carowinds.

I'd guess around 2001 or 2002 was when they took it out, unless my memory is really bad.

I remember 2002 was its last year of operation, as I first got a camera in 2003 and was saddened opening day when I couldn't use it... :(

I know a few more examples like this one was at Williams Grove (not sure of its status since the closure of the park) and DelGrossos Amusement Park in Tipton, Pennsylvania also has one that I set of numerous times.

I'm sure there are more that exist in the world, I will do some research and post later.

I believe Tweetsie Railroad still has a large shooting gallery of the Carowinds variety...with a camera flash all of the sounds and animations go off.

Dollywood has a small one next to the bathrooms at the Wave Swinger, though it is new.

VERY COOL!! A friend of mine's son is to young to remember the old SG at Carowinds or Myrtle Beach so we may try and take him up to Tweetsie this weekend to see if we can find the SG up there...

Someone said there was one at a Bass Pro Shop in Concord and another one in Concord at a place with a one word name but they couldn't remember what it was Something like Pete's or Jean's or something like that...

Links to photos to follow if I find any of them this weekend...

If it was "Jeepers", then they closed last year. I'm not sure if that is where the SG was, but it would seem logical, as Jeepers was an arcade/everything else. They even had a little indoor kid's coaster.

Did the Jeepers at Concord Mills close? I thought it was just the Gastonia one.

Sorry to disappoint, but Tweetsie doesn't open until May 4th. April is too cold for an amusement park up here in the mountains. :(
