OK so I totally dig that Cedar Fair has come in and is going to help out the Paramount parks. I strongly look forward to seeing what the company is going to bring to the park. But in the past few weeks I have gone, I have felt this strange feeling about what I have been seeing about the park.
We have this strange invasion of Suits at our park now. Now if you are not familiar with what this means, take a trip out to the park. Its more apparent on a slow day. You will see mixed within the crowd this new breed of park employee that the hubby and I like to call the suits. We assume that these are the corporate employees of the Cedar Fair company walking around and taking tours of the park. But they stand out.... too much.
Some of these guys are possibly managers as well...In fact I can probably be safe to assume this. But there is this strange feeling that I get when I see these guys.
Yesterday we are at the Ricochet in line and all of the sudden three large guys in button up shirts, ties, dark sunglasses, and earpieces come trecking through the park with a woman in a biz suit dress practically in the same syle os the large guys. Its hard to explain the feeling I get from seeing these people walking around, but it is unsettling. This is our fun park, the getaway from the business as usual work week. Having these people just walk through the park, picking it apart in the public view is just not right. They should definitely look to dressing down just a little when taking their trips to our park. Even if it means simplifying down their wardrobe to a mere polo shirt.
There is also this very clear division now of employees and it looks bad. Cleaning employees wearing these BRIGHT yellow shirts making them easy to point out... don't make the cleaning crew stick out, keeping a park clean should be stealthy. We should never realize that the park is ever at any point dirty. It should feel like our trash just magically disappear. It is a theme park isn't it?
Back to the suits... It comes back to those that are potentially managers or something of sorts. We were on our way out of the park and the guy who does charicateurs of people by the Borg (right in front of the smoking area by the arcade) was not there... maybe on a break. But there were two Suits at his station. It was as if I was in a scene from the matrix and our neighborly everyday drawer had been unplugged and replaced with one of the agents.
Whats worse about this instance was listening to what the two guys were talking about as we were walking by... Mainly discussing Entertainers and what was this almost mockingly sounding disussion about how they believe "They Are the Park" Well thats good, but don't speak in this manner especially in a highly trafficked area of the park.
So my main point here is just that we need to have a little less presence of the corporate influence in the park. Yes we know you bought the park. Yes we know you want to help. Yes we would love to have you visit the park and check out how the Carolinas like to have fun, but we don't want to be reminded that you are here, just let us have our fun and don't remind us that we have a day job to return to on Monday.
