I am headed up the Cedar Point and Geauga Lake. Is there anything I should make sure to get night rides on? Any particular restaurants to eat at inside the parks? Any other suggestions on things to do in the area? Any advice at all?

At CP, I'd vote for a night ride in the front seat of Millennium Force. For me, that was one of the highlights of Coastermania 2003. Of course we had exit passes so weren't waiting over an hour for that ride like the "regular" guests were.

Oddly enough, it's far from my favorite coaster there - Raptor wins that hands-down. I find MF somewhat overhyped since there aren't many forces like on most other hypers, it's mainly about SPEED. Still, that night ride up front definitely made the best use of that speed, though, and was a memorable ride. I'd try to get a ride up front during the day, as that drop IS impressive, and there are some decent airtime pops in the backseat as well.

I'd read up on some of the CP-centric boards to figure out an attack plan for the park - you should have NO trouble finding one (or ten) of those. Coasterbuzz / Pointbuzz would probably be good for starters. Traffic flow will be a bit different with Maverick opening, and with it being in a usually dead area of the park. It sounds like that's where many head first thing now instead of MF or Dragster, so you might want to start off on one of those. Dragster might be one to line up for first if you see that it's running, given it's sometimes problematic nature.

Oh, and keep your mouth closed during that night ride on MF. The reason: muffleheads. These are little bugs that gather in big swarms in various areas at CP. Not sure if they've hatched or not, seems to be around this time of year when they do but depends on the weather, etc. They're like gnats, so not a big deal, but you can imagine swarm of small bugs + open mouth + 95mph = yuck. I'd advise against white t-shirts as well, and sunglasses wouldn't be a bad idea. You can probably ask on one of the CP sites, they'll know if they're out yet or not.

As far as food - I only remember some mediocre stuff at some of the stands, and a very good meal for us Coastermania attendees - can't let ACE'rs starve ya know. I think there's a buffet place somewhere in CP with a good reputation, never got to check it out though. I think Coasters and Johnny Rockets are also supposed to be good. Outside the park in Sandusky there was a Steak and Shake we ate at that was good.

Didn't do GL which was Six Flags Worlds of Adventure back then I think, but from the sounds of things on the various boards you should have no problems whatsoever with lines there. They've removed a number of rides, but still have the B&M floorless and I think at least one of their woodies is supposed to be pretty good.

I'm almost back home from my trip to CP, GLake and Kennywood.

CP doesn't have many sit down places, mostly walk up places. I liked Johnny Rockets, but it's probably just typical burgers I'd say. But it's a fun place with the dancing and such.

I'll be doing a trip report when i get home, but i had so much fun. I've got 600+ photos to upload. lol

6 Millie rides, 3 Dragster rides (yes I fit Jonathan!), not having to go to work = Priceless.

I wouldn't expect to get the Raging wolf bobs credit.

And trust me, it was crap IMO. So no worries.

It's almost like it was going to derail at any moment. :D

Welcome back riders, how was that ride . . . <crickets>

The Villain was painful, but it did have some air time. At least it had that going for it . . . Mean Streak, however, is possibly the worst coaster I have ever ridden . . . no speed, no air time, no laterals, no nothing.

I agree 100% Mean Streak is absolutely terrible. Its nice to look at. I hope in the future theyll take it down and pit in like some Intamin Wooden coaster or GCIs or Gravity Group. But i doubt it they wouldnt raise CPs coaster count and they wouldn't be able to brag about 18 coasters.

I actually liked Mean Streak when I went 3 years ago, although Gemini kicked it in the pants.

Lean Streak...er Mean Streak was smooth and pretty fast in the front, but you can hear all the air time evaporate going down the first drop with those 3 trim brakes.

Every point where there should have been some floater airtime, there was NOTHING!

But it's still not as bad a coaster as Son of Beast. That thing was painful.

Lean Streak is just a boring, great looking coaster now.
