General Carowinds discussion

It seems this year there will be Kids' Howl-o-fest during the day and the name has been changed to SCarowinds' Halloween Haunt.

I think just "Scarowinds" sounds better, (I'm sure everyone will continue to call it that anyway) though the "Halloween Haunt" part was borrowed from KBF.

I've read here that Cedar Fair is putting quite a bit into the Halloween event this year, so perhaps it will be of the Knott's caliber?

Apparently they are hiring triple the number of actors as last year.

Awesome news. I felt last year was a bit "meh" compared to years past. Of course my favorite years were 2002 and 2003 prior to the removal of a certain boat and island - the trail out there was often very good. Since then they've obviously lost the area to do that haunted trail, and they changed the haunted house behind Nick Central - that used to be the best, and very good.

More actors should mean better haunted houses / trails, and more stuff going on in the midways. I think one of the "problems" with the last few years is that they've added more and more rides. It's definitely good to get more stuff to ride, and to spread the crowds out, but I think it diluted things a bit. Last year I felt like only parts of the park were themed well and had the Scarowinds atmosphere, with the rest of it just being regular ol' nighttime Carowinds. The prior year felt a bit weak as well, which was probably due to them gearing up for Winterfest.

Looking forward to this year, even with a different name :P

I guess I should go this year knowing that I have never been to Scarowinds. What all kind of rides are open for this event?

They usually have everything open execpt for the RFD section of the park, kiddie land, and the water rides. But who nows what they may do this year.

I think Scarowinds is going to be great this year. I am looking forward to seeing what cedar fair can do in terms of making a great scare park. I know some of the attractions have been posted already on the website, sounds great!

I hope it's good this year. With 6 haunts and around 300 Scarchters it should be, if the employees are in the mood.

My only problem with Scarowinds is that they have to walk that fine line between scarying the death out of kids and keeping us older people satisfied. Now, if they could make one section of the park for strictly 16 years of age and up and let all the balls roll I'd be there everynight. Hmm...now that's an idea for next year CF.

^^ Funny that you mention that. Apparently Kings Island has some sort of attraction this year that is 17 and up. I guess it's possible that Carowinds will have the same thing.

^ Maybe that's what's inside Hurler's turn - it's certainly somewhere where they could easily restrict access to it. It would be nice to have something a bit "scarier".

Good news on 1 am closing, too. I'm really looking forward to Scarowinds this year

Seems they are taking some of the pages from the Granddaddy of all Halloween Events, Knott's Scary Farm, and plugging them into the Scarowinds version. I will say the Haunt at Knotts is one of the best thing going in terms of old School Scares. I might even have to break down and head to Scarowinds if I think what I am hearing happends. It will be well worth it.

I wonder why they added "Halloween Haunt" to SCarowinds. Atleast it isn't "Paramount's SCarowinds Haunted Theme Park" anymore. Goodbye Paramount, thank god.

I would venture a guess that before it is all said and done that Scarowinds will be dropped from the name after a year or two to just Halloween Haunt. It is alot easier to make Haunt shirts for the chain that way. And they where some really nice shirts that they had at Knott's Scary Farm last year.

It is almost time to bring the Halloween shirts out of storage for another year. Have a nice assortment from the HHN (Orlando and Hollywood), Haloween Haunt (Knotts), and afew other parks that have good Haloween events. I am sure Wes is rolling his eyes after reading that.
