The San Francisco 49'ers are in negotiations with Cedar Fair to buy Great America to ensure ample parking for their new football stadium. A representative for the 49'ers says that CF is trying to inflate the selling price for Great America but that they believe that CF wants to sell Great America and that the 49'ers would buy it for a fair price.
Now imagine CF making an offer that is fair for the land value that the 49'ers want and retaining ownership of the rides which could be shipped off ala GL style to the other CF parks...what rides from Great America would Carowinds get!? ;)

Cedar Fair doesn't own the land. Santa Clara does.

The land on which Great America and the parking lot is located is owned by the City of Santa Clara but is leased to Cedar Fair through 2039.

From the Cedar Fair Press Release:

" When Cedar Fair concluded that an amusement park and the stadium as proposed could not successfully coexist, Cedar Fair offered the City and the 49ers the option of redeveloping the entire parcel. The next step will be for the citizens and the City of Santa Clara to decide: should the Great America site be used for a new 49ers’ stadium or should the park continue to operate? If the City and its citizens believe that the best use of this property is for a new stadium, then Cedar Fair is willing to consider selling the remainder of its lease and all of its interest and assets to the City or 49ers for fair market value. "

Wow. That coupled with the SI article sounds mighty curious to me.
