you beat me to it but i took some pics as well towards the end of the day. The whole entire turn is gone now and the wood is bascially being torn apart or dropped as i saw with the crane. Will post the pics when i get home.

I am assuming they are doing the same modification to the backwards side as they did with the forwards side. They rebuilt that entire part of the turnaround on the forwards side earlier in the year.

The structure in that section was probably in need of major work, so they just decided to rebuild it from the ground up.

Edit: Jonathan beat me to it :)

The time to worry is when you see not a crane, but a wrecking ball and dudes with chainsaws and sledgehammers.

I seem to recall a picture of the turnaround from the forward side being dismantled sometime in the past, so I'm not concerned at all. There might be some additional work going on here to fix whatever kept the backwards side down most of 2007.

It's funny how much I missed riding the backwards side when it was down. Although I don't find T-Road to be particularly thrilling, nor does it have much airtime, I do find it very fun - backwards moreso than forwards. It's not even nostalgia, even though it was my first wooden coaster - I just really enjoy riding this ride. Hopefully it'll be back up and running well after some TLC.

P.S. Oh, and Jonathan, you do realize that your new avatar pic makes you a target, right? Not that I'd backstab you or anything. :P

Don't you mean Cedar unFair? :P

If they were tearing it down, like said earlier...there would be a wrecking ball there. Not a crane.

Heck if we weren't in a drought, they'd probably burn the thing down.

FYI: Was in the 'AREA' this morning and can confirm the Turnaround has been rebuilt. Looks like they where working on the track when I was there. I have pics on my cell and if I can figure out how the heck to get them off of it. I will be more than happy to post them here.

If anyone cares, I read on TPR that GCI is doing the work on the coaster:

Thunder Road, the 1976-built twin racing wooden roller coaster located at Carowinds near Charlotte, N.C., is currently undergoing some major off-season reconstruction. The entire back turn of the backwards-running side has been removed and will be rebuilt from the ground up. Thunder Road’s structural overhaul is being performed by Great Coasters International, Inc. of Sunbury, Pa.
