The Borg Paint job was a bad job. when the coaster sections arrived at carowinds Parking lot the desicion was made not to sandblast the old paint off and repaint with new. Management even said no to scuffing up the paint to allow the Green and black to adhere better.. They simply told the contractors to pressure wash and paint it. The paint actually started to come off during the construction and testing stage. So at this point touching up the paint will look good but will come off as quick as it did in 2004

This is the first time I have seen Wes ever say he is not buying a pass in 2009. Now we all know he has not bought one in 2008 since I think I have saw him talk about it afew times.

I will use an old wise saying for my answer and that is all good things come to those who wait.

I'm serious though. And I might feel different after only one visit in 2008, but I'm frankly bored with the park (except for TG and the flyers of course).

But with so many parks out there that I've still not hit yet, I think I'd rather spend that $140 there instead.

That's very true, but I'm just saying I'd love to hit some other parks like Knoebels, Hershey, etc.

Some of the older parks have a lot more appeal to me than the corporate parks.

Now back on topic.

I think 2009 or 2010 will see some type of major ride, whether coaster or flat. If not, they are really going to piss people off.

I've heard a lot of general public people mad that all they're getting next year is a wave pool. But let's not go down that path again.

So $140.oo is considered a good deal to visit 15 Cedar Fair parks. While Six Flags charges $69.99 (often less if you catch a sale) to visit the same number of 15 parks???
Now yes I do think 15 Cedar Fair parks is a better quality product than 15 Six Flags parks. Now also yes, if you use no coupons or any specials you will have paid for the $140 pass within 3 parks (depending on the park) but does that equal a great value? Given that there's not much other choice here if you want to visit a lot of Cedar Fair parks it can be savings but I think there are much better values out there.

Value is in the eye of the beholder. I am lucky enough that I travel alot for work with having 106 offices that I am in charge of through out the US. Those offices location consist of many states that have cedar fair parks in them so I find the $140 that I paid for the pass a real value to me, while some people find it expensive and not worth the 140 bucks.

Speaking of value, I was lucky enough to get a Six Flags pass from Magic Mountain for a mere 42.95 during the one day sale that Six Flags had afew weeks back. That is a much better deal that the 140 I paid for my Knott's Pass in October. Again if you plan to go to more than three Cedar Fair parks that the pass pays for itself, but it is only a value if you do that.

Lets look at the other passes in the region while we are at it. It is 150 if you have to pay for the Hard Rock Park Season Pass. It is 103 for a gold pass at Dollywood or 206 for the two year pass. Then if you go farther south in the Sunshine state, it is 189 for a Universal Orlando pass and over a hundred bucks depending on what type of Pass you get for a Busch Park. Now the granddaddy pass is the Disneyworld Pass which runs almost 500 bucks.

Now Value of these passes are in the ye of the beholder. I find the 140 bucks a value since I can and will hit some Cedar Fair parks in 2008. But each person sees things in a different light. Just enjoy whatever park you visit is the easiest thing to do.

Ok enough of the blah blah about season passes. It is now time to get things back on topic folks.

Six Flags, though, is undervaluing their Season Passes. Before CF purchased Paramount, you had to buy expensive Season Passes for far less parks, but I digress.

I think 2009 will see something major at the park, and starting then the park will be back on schedule (well, really I think 2008 is the starting back of being on schedule) for new attractions. Carowinds had one off year. I think Paramount could have done a much better job with Boomer Bay than they did, but that was their last major decision for the most part.

Cedar Fair added this year's coming attraction because it'll give the water park a boost. I still believe (someday you and me...oh, wait. Nevermind) that the major issue here that most enthusiasts complain is because the last few additions weren't either adult additions or dry additions, coupled with a true off year.

But by the end of next year we'll be pretty much thru the CF transition and they can focus on adding new stuff to the parks once the parks have gotten up to CF standards. We already know that CGA and KI are getting a new coaster in 2009. I don't see KD or CW getting new coasters then because they are getting or just got them. (P.S. does anyone know what KI is getting for 2008? Did they ever announce?).

I expect the next few additions to be a mix of flats and coasters and family rides.

Just throwin this out there... Anyone think that Behemoth may have been originally planned for Carowinds. To me some things add up to that, like all the previous rumors for Carowinds hyper, and the topography is very similar. Paramount may very well have planned out Behemoth but with a different location. Then again in the same accord I suppose it could of been a plan Cedar Fair had for one of their other parks (ahem Geauga Lake) but then with the acquistion changed plans to send it to their new attendance winner Canada's Wonderland.

It's just a random thought...

The rumors of Carowinds getting a hyper have always been just that, rumors.

They were never (that I know of) actually based on anything someone at the park ever said.

Wonderland is (I believe) the biggest park in attendance of all the former Paramount parks. It would only make sense that they would get a major investment. That park really got screwed over in the coaster department as far as I've seen and it was about time they got a quality ride. Although the trains look stupid.

I think you have to keep in mind that, with the exception of Cedar Point, Knotts Berry Farm, and Dorney, all the other Cedar Fair parks have seasonal attendance between 400,000 and 800,000 people.

That is why the smaller CF parks get a new coaster every 5-8 years instead of every 2-4 years for the larger parks in the original CF chain.

Paramount Parks averaged a new coaster every 3-4 years. You have to keep in mind that the smallest Paramount Park, Great Adventure, had greater attendance than all CF parks except for the 3 mentioned above.

The old Paramount pecking order was as follows:

1) Kings Island
2) Canada's WonderLand
3) Kings Dominion
4) Carowinds
5) Great Adventure

The new Cedar Fair pecking order (my guess | the top 3-4 spots could shift some in the future):

1) Cedar Point
2) Canada's WonderLand
3) Kings Island
4) Knotts berry Farm
5) Kings Dominion
6) Carowinds
7) Dorney
California's Great Adventure
9) Worlds of Fun
10) Valley Fair
11) Michigan's Adventure

NOTE: I did not count any of the CF separate gated Water parks nor Geauga Lake going forward.

I am speaking just about new coasters, I believe that the top 4 parks will get a coaster every 2-4 years. The next 4 on the list will get a coaster every 3-5 years and the bottom tier parks will get a new coaster 4-7 years. Even the guesses I shared above could change depending on whether a park decides to "save up" its capital improvement money over a season or 2 and not put in a new attraction those years. That could allow a park to splurge on a new coaster earlier than the time frame alloted for them. :rolleyes:

My home park is KD and it looks like Carowinds and KD are entrenched solidly in the middle of the CF pack. I think Cedar Fair will not neglect neither you nor KD, I think they are a little more focused on us right now due to both SFA and BGE being about 2 hours away. Because of that competition, CF has got to keep an eye on what is going on with KD. :unsure:
