Every effort was made to save Carowind's most famous landmark. In the end however, the ships hull was cracked after it was moved to the side spot. It was not the park's plan to destroy the ship, but unfortunately that's what happened.

And, what will happen to the boat's remains?

( This all reminds me of what happened to WDW Magic Kingdom's 2nd Paddlewheeler, "The Admiral Joe Fowler", which was also scrapped after the hull got cracked during a re-habb move)

Well, my question would be this; How much damage could be done to a boat that was going to be dry docked? I mean it does not have to be able to turn water (from the bottom) anymore to be come a gift shop or resturant.

Methinks that Carowinds just wanted it gone and had to find a reason to remove it so the "damage" reason becomes the excuse of choice.

As I said in the other thread, Carowinds continues to lose it "theme" and just become one of many other cookie cutter parks.

It's sad indeed.

Sadly, I agree with that guy.

If the park wanted it gone, they wouldn't have to make up excuses. It seems that some people think this is some kind of elaborate conspiracy against them. If the park wanted it gone they wouldn't have had it drawn into the plans, and they wouldn't have had it turned around and put in a new position. But, perhaps I am wrong, and this is all a huge stunt to anger coaster enthusiasts.

Well, I never said it was a conspiracy of any sort. I was more of the opinion that corparations that run parks tend to forget their heritage.

IF the Queen is gone for good then it is a sad day for the park and people that have been going to the park since it opened. Not much remains now. Heck even the stones out front with the county names are gone is memory serves.

I am all for progress but don't you have to remember the past to forge ahead into the future?

Anyway , I feel like the Queen is dead and buried now. Gone the same route as the monorail , sky buckets and many other of the "original" attractions.

I truly believe that if someone had the land and money to start a park geared toward the very young and older crowd at the same time they could make a mint (ala Disneyland).

I wonder how long before the skytower, is removed. Now it is the thing I think of when I think of Carowinds. It is what (kind of) sets the park aparts from the rest of the parks.

Another park staple that I would hate to see go would be Thunder Road. Are new wooden coasters even being built? There is just some character, in my honest opinion, that you lose on a steel coaster. I would think that the age or TR and the fact that it is wooden would make it a candidate for removal in the near future. If TR is ever removed I will not return to Paramount's parks anywhere.

Now the younger posters can flame, bash and trash me all they like...

Yes Drafin they are building new wooden coasters every year. Dollywood is building ThunderHead for the 2004 season. In regards to ThunderRoad being removed, I don't see that anytime in the near future. Carowinds keeps the coaster in pretty good shape with the retracking efforts over the years.

I would be much more concerned that they would remove the GoldRusher. In fact if they were to remove a coaster from the park, I feel that the mine train would be the first to go

My comment was geared towards you saying the park isn't valuing its heritage, because I agree with that. My comment was geared towards you comment about Carowinds wanting an excuse to remove it so they intentionally damaged it. As for Thunder Road, I would think that it would be one of the very last things to be removed.
