General Carowinds discussion

I guess I just know how to position my head and anticipate the changes because I absolutely loved Maverick. I, too, think MF is overrated, and that Maverick is the best coaster at Cedar Point. But I also like Arrow loopers, and don't take a head beating from them either.

Idk why but I'm kinda hopin they paint Head Spin purple for some reason but since it's not one of Cedar Point's Intamins, theyll send it to us exactly as it is

A friend of mine spotted blue track going into the park on Wednesday. Don't ask me why he just told me this, but take it or leave it. He works right down the street from the park.

(I go away for a few years and THIS is what I come back to??)

I know I haven't been on the site for a while, but I've been feeling kind of down about Carowinds in the past few seasons. I see a few of you share my thoughts as well. I can't believe they are getting rid of the FSS. That is one of the smoother coasters at Carowinds and I hate to see it go. My daughter and I are still season pass holders, but we don't go as much as we used to. In fact, it was the Scarowinds option that sold us on this season's passes.

I still enjoy (what I will always refer to as)Top Gun, and (whatever they are calling)The Scooby Doo (junior woodie), and the sentimental Goldrusher. And my spirits were high the year we got the Flyers. But I was unimpressed with the roughness of the Borg Assimilator, leaving me unwilling to ever be "assimilated" again. Perhaps it's my age, I don't know, and even though I still consider myself a coaster-enthusiast, I just really dislike rough coasters.

Another Vekoma? What is this? Vekoma-winds? I would love to see Carowinds make wiser use of space with a few more Swiss coasters. And even though Vortex is a B&M, I wish they were replacing it instead of the FSS. Vortex is too rough. I honestly don't know anyone that actually rides it and enjoys it.

Anyway, enough of my 2cents. Thank you all for keeping us informed on the latest Carowinds news. I love this site.

May the Force be with you all.

I'm 22 and share your thoughts. I think you'll find the majority of 'coaster enthusiasts' probably do as well. Rides like Vortex and Head Spin are not even remotely fun to me; I do enjoy Borg every now and then, though. While I hate to see people down on the park, at the same time I am glad to know it's not just "whiny coaster enthusiasts". It's not just me and others on this board being irrational. I've heard similar things from friends and family (unprovoked; they volunteered their opinions without knowing mine).

I don't see how everyone has a beef with Vortex... I for one love it! It's just a matter of getting the restraints in a comfortable position.

Anyway, I won't mind the loss of FSS, it's a really short ride, and without all of the water elements being used (most of them aren't), the ride is kind of lame. But I always hate when parks replace coasters, instead of just building it somewhere else. Head Spin is small enough that it could easily fit somewhere else in the park, like near Drop Tower and Hurler.

Disappointing, to say the least, but we've seen it coming for several months... we just didn't want to believe it. Like some of you posting, I too, have heard many unsolicited negative comments from friends, and other people I don't know, that Carowinds is not getting anything new or exciting. The park must not have the kind of revenues necessary for Cedar unFair to invest available dollars towards anything new... as a whole, CF is highly indebted and they probably feel that investing more in the large revenue parks is a better bet ~ which I can't blame them if that is the case. Still unfortunate for those of us, like myself, who consider Carowinds(Usedvekomawinds) their home park. NO Season Passes for us next year(that's seven) ~ we'll put those dollars towards the new central Florida coasters and return trips to DW and BGE! Unfortunate!
