General Carowinds discussion

Keep in mind that Cedar Fair started deciding on and putting in attractions, for all former Paramount Parks, starting for the 2007 season (took ownership of the parks on July 1, 2006). The earliest that CF could put in a major new steel coaster would have been this year 2008.

Canada's wonderland - site prep/construction of new B&M in 2007 and opens in 2008 (probably made decision and planning in fall of 2006).

KI - site prep/construction of new B&M in 2008 and opens in 2009 (probably made decision and planning in fall of 2007).

KD - my guess is that we will probably see our next major coaster in 2010. (decision/planning this fall 2008; site prep/construction in 2009; opens 2010).

Carowinds - my guess is that you will probably see your next major coaster in 2011. (decision/planning the fall of 2009; site prep/construction in 2010; opens 2011).

CGA - Up in the air with this park.

That is part of a pattern that I am seeing. Also, look at the distribution of the used GL coasters. KI - 2007; KD - 2008; CW - 2009; Again it is just what I see as a pattern for CF in installing coasters in the former Paramount Parks.

Carowinds got Head Spin while Kings Dominion got Dominator. Do you really think Kings Dominion is getting a "major coaster" before Carowinds?

I doubt KD would score another B & M before Carowinds. Had we gotten Dominator, I would have felt differently. Dominator at our park, geographically, would have been a smart choice, I think, between sisters Kraken to the south and Hydra & Medussa to the north, but that's another story. The real story here is whether we will ever rate getting that $20M coaster we all wish and hope for... isn't there discussion of VF getting one ahead of us?

More than likely, CF has a multi-coaster, multi-year deal, in process, with B & M, same as GCI. Maybe we fall somewhere in the deal for a B & M, 2010 or 2011. Headspin will appeal to many, the less educated coaster freaks in the Carolinas, but not to those of us priviledged with many trip to better coasters...

^ I actually stand by CF's choice to put Dominator in KD as Carowinds and KD are in the same general area of the US, however, KD is in a totally different tourist spot than Carowinds. Both parks are the kinda parks people stop at during a road trip or a family vacation and KD had nothing like that yet, while Afterburn still brings people to Carowinds. And bringing back Geographics, remember that Virginia has Kraken south and Medusa north as well. They also have the closest competition in the form of BGE. In all, it was a better choice.

What I was stating above is based on the former Paramount Park chain ranking according to attendence/revenue. I was not debating about why KD should get a new attraction before CW or vice versa.

My view is that Cedar Fair is placing major new coaster attractions in the order of each parks attendence and revenue earned. Canada's Wonderland 1st; Kings Island 2nd; Kings Dominion 3rd; Carowinds 4th.

I left out CA's Great Adventure because they were suposed to be getting a GCI wood coaster for 2009. A wood coaster costs a fraction of what a B&M hyper costs. Whether or not CGA ever gets this coaster depends on the local planning commission decision or if CF justs sells the park to the 49'ers.

Some of you complained that why should KD get a hyper before CW. We just got Dominator this year. Well, if that is the case, then I should bitch about KI getting DiamondBack next year. They just got FireHawk last year. I am not going to though. I feel all the Paramount parks will be getting a new coaster of some sort within the next 3 years.

Come to think of it, I am not sure if KD or CW draw enough people to get a coaster like Behemoth or Diamondback. KD might end up with a smaller version or something totally different.

^ but think about it this way:

You own a restaraunt right? People loved it at first but eventually it just got old. So, you gotta do something to spark attendance back and you introduce this new great dish everyone loves. So, Carowinds getting a new coaster would, in turn spark attendance as long as it was marketed right and people knew what it was. Hell, KD had over 20,000 people in their park at one point this season.

lol lol personally I would rather see that slide tower in the background come to the park before this!

It's funny how this is almost exactly how it will look at Carowinds!(the sky tower will be behind it here too!)

I find it interesting that a coaster that so many people hate, has generated so much talk on the boards. There are 2 threads with about 15 pages of text between them.
