General Carowinds discussion

According to a friend at USAirways the lowest any plane can fly over Carowinds is 900-1,200ft.

I assume 900ft for small commercial/private planes and 1,200 for larger planes.

I could be wrong but i believe anything over 200ft must be cleared by the FAA and as you said that includes piant color.

Whatever the park is getting we'll find out something soon cause if it's a hyper the flume will have to be removed by opening day 2009. I think they will start removeing the log flume after Scarowinds.

I am pretty sure anything over 200 feet tall has to have a red(or whatever color) flashing light like Skytower does also.

The log flume is one of the last of the old rides, i thinck it is currently the oldest. it would be sad to see it go for anything lame.

From what I could decipher of the legalese on the FAA website, they want you to contact them anytime you build anything, anywhere, 200 feet or taller. As best as I could determine, Carowinds isn't close enough to Charlotte-Douglas to be under any special restrictions. That isn't to say the FAA couldn't object to whatever they were doing, but most likely they'd just want to ensure it was painted in such a way to be visible during the day, and have appropriate lighting beacons, etc. at night. I'd think having something shorter than the Skytower in the same area of the park as the Skytower wouldn't be a problem, as planes already would be avoiding the area due to the Skytower.

The flume, the Skytower, Kaleidoscope and Goldrusher are the remaining original attractions if I remember correctly. All of those opened with the park in 1973. I'd hate to see another one go, but the flume is probably approaching the end of it's useful life. They've been disappearing bit by bit from other parks, including Dollywood. I think the one at Dollywood was still pretty popular and was one of the oldest rides there, yet they removed it. I remember talk of it being a maintenance headache as one reason it left, which I'd assume would also be the case if / when Carowinds removes theirs. Also, while long lines show popularity, they can also indicate slow loading and low capacity, which would certainly apply to most old log flumes, especially those without turntables.

The various rumors do seem to point to something "big" - removal of the log flume AND buildings behind it which open up quite a bit of space, especially if some parking lot is reclaimed, and an earlier-than-usual start on everything. Time will tell, of course, whether things do actually get removed, and if so what replaces them....

I can't recall if it was or not, but that was honestly one of the best old Arrow flumes. It got me soaked the one and only time I rode it, it's last year. I think it was removed at the end of 2004.

When I went to Dollywood, I went on the flume 5 times and it was my favorite. I don't care if the log flume at Carowinds is taken out cause i'll never ride it again. The lines for the flume at carowinds only become long when its hot. Most people probably don't have any other way to get cooler. It's very slow and not worth the long lines. If The removal means a new place for a flat ride package or a new coaster i'll be happy either way.

It's interesting that everyone says they are so over Carowinds, but when even the faintest hint that we might get something good pops up, then the posts start to fly and even ole' reliable Screamscape gets involved.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but we'll just wait and see. Maybe C3 09 will have something to talk about besides vekoma snakes.

I can't lie and say that I have always supported Carowinds, but we finally have something good to speculate on instead of talking about all the good things other parks are getting. I will always like Carowinds, but sometimes I am ready to be over them!!!

and some people forget that.

So... if we do see something big for 2010, what will all the Cedar UN-Fair people have to say then? I doubt they will be saying a whole lot.

'cept me. It goes beyond the surface with me. I dont like how the season pass process was handled. I actually brought a season pass with the intentions of going more than the one time I went this year, however, I didnt get it processed. Now under paramount, I would just renew and it would be in the system. But I showed "THAT ONE" I was a previous season pass holder and wanted to renew but it was like I was a new customer. The line was too long and I was sleepy so I left. Needless to say I misplaced the paper thingy with my season pass info on it.

I called back and the girl basically told me im at a lost (no seriously she did). I literally had to come up with a resolution myself. Then she gave me an answer that, well, wasnt feasible. Told me it would take weeks and by that time the park would be closed for the season. I didnt fret too much because, it was me who lost the slip but I feel as if the park, well that chick didnt give a rats ***.

I'm not totally against cedar fair. I went to kings dominion this year and had fun but when it comes to carowinds, I dont know when I will go back to "THAT ONE" again. New coaster or not...

Will I buy a season pass for next year, I'm leaning towards no.

Does Screamscape get their stories from here?? Not the first time stuffs pops up on here and then on Screamscape.

Bruh, I wasn't thrilled with the season pass stuff this year myself. Now the lines weren't excessive when we went to get out pass processed, but we did have a little wait. I filled out all the stuff online so that I wouldn't have to fill out the slip when getting the pass processed and save time. When I get up to get pics taken, they didn't have that information in the system. Need to work on that CF.

Well, I am NOT against any park or company that operates any park. I do get fustrated at thier choice of additions / removals and think at times they miss the ball on what Carowinds needs to get up to par with many other parks on the East Coast. But, as I have stated many a time before, I do not write the checks.

I just think over the last few years we should have gotten a good "Flat" package, and a New Style coaster instead of makeing Carowinds a used attraction park.

I do hope for some things awesome over the next few years out of Cedar Fair. I just don't talk about Carowinds as I used to and don't give in to anything anymore untill I see hard evidence and parts showing up at the park. That's all.
