General Carowinds discussion
#25777
I've been to Scarowinds 6 times this year, mainly due to my obsession with the Dead Awakening Show. I've been to Dead Awakening so many times that some of the workers in the lobby have come to know me and I usually talk to them about the show afterwards (they frequently change aspects about the show; small things, but I noticed them). Anyway, from my last visit, I've been informed that due to countless complaints from concerned parents about the "adult" nature of the show , it will not be returning next year. This really enrages me because parents are told the show (AND THE ENTIRE FREAKIN' SCAROWINDS EVENT) is not intended for children (Scarowinds is rated PG-13 and Dead Awakening is rated R.) When you take your children to an R rated show or event...you have ZERO right to complain about what they are exposed to. You as the parent are solely to blame. It disgusts me that a show as good as Dead Awakening isn't being brought back because some parents didn't heed the warnings about the show's content.

(Also, from my sources, I learned that Dead Awakening's last show will be on Friday, even though Scarowinds will continue until Saturday).

(I also learned during the same conversation that although there will be an ice show next summer, it will not be the same show as in the past 2 years).

When I was at the park (didn't see DA) on 10/11, there were a ton of kids there at SCarowinds.

And they wonder why little kids have nightmares.

It's like PG-13 movies, many are kinda ok for smaller kids, but several I've seen were not appropriate IMO but you see parents dragging them in there anyway. I remember a kid screaming their head off at Twister because it was so loud. Or maybe it was the bad acting.

Well, I can understand the problem parents would have if they hadn't been warned about it. It's not that it's too scary for their children, cause it's not scary at all (it's not intended to be). There's some songs in it that parents (especially around here, being the bible belt) don't want their children to hear (such as "I Kissed a Girl"), coupled with some of the suggestive/revealing dancing and attire. We took my 10 year old cousin with us, who we know is mature enough for some of the mazes, since he watches horror movies like Saw and Scream and such and has no problem with them. However, we knew better than to take him to see Dead Awakening so we simply skipped the show. Even if we hadn't been before, we are smart enough to read some signs and find out "HEY....THIS IS RATED R NOT DUE TO SCARY ELEMENTS, BUT DUE TO SUGGESTIVE ADULT CONTENT...LET'S NOT TAKE A 10 YEAR OLD!" (DOH!)

My wife and I went to Scarowinds on Sat night, and I as a parent of a 5 & 2 yr old was shocked that some parents would bring a child as young as 2(or maybe a little younger) to the event. Hell, my oldest used to get nightmares watching the Wizard of Oz(dang monkeys and witch). Do they need to dumb down the signs?? "If you ain't 21, do not come in"
I saw the signs at the gate, Not suggested for children under the age of 13. Maybe parents need to look around and read the signs more. If it were me working there and they complained to me, I would have shown them the signs and asked if they could read. But hey, that's why I'm not in customer service.

Thanks for the confirmation that management is not really crazy. I have been totally baffled at the amount of complaints I have had to deal with because "The monsters are scaring my 8 yr old and I want it to stop." Hellllloooo! Commendation for the monsters for doing their jobs! Or how about the people who attended the Christian music festival and then were appalled at the Halloween items placed around the park (at 10pm)? Get a grip people and start taking responsibility for your own stupidity! Quit complaining that we are doing what we are being paid to do.

I'm not surprised that this happened at all considering how many little kids i have seen running around during Scarowinds this year. Unfortunately, parents dont listen to the warnings that are posted, and then everyone else gets punished because of their ignorance. Perhaps next year they should make it a requirement to enter Scarowinds with ID, and ID must be shown at the entrance to the park for anyone above 13. And then require ID to see the R rated show. Just a possibility....

I personally think if the ticket seller sees that the people have small kids with them, that they tell them they are not allowed in the park. That doesn't help with online purchases I know. It's just dumb on parent's parts these days. It's no wonder elementary school kids buy drugs these days. Look at the lack of parental supervision over their young lives!

They have a similar policy at the Movies 10 theater in Matthews. No children under 18 are allowed in the theater on Friday and Saturday night without their parent or legal guardian. People get mad about it, but they turn them away all the time.

Same things that those parents were being exposed to 30 yrs ago....Sex, drugs, Rock & Roll.

Now I may have to try to work in a trip out there just to see that show! We missed it on Sat night, actually didn't realize they had a show. That's what I get for walking thru the Cemetary.

Oh yeah, funny thing. Not trying to get anyone in trouble with faula or anything, but I was in the mood to test the Pass checkers. I gave my wife my pass and I took hers just to see if they would notice.......not even a chance. Picture came up, woman clicked the screen, and I gave her mine. Didn't even pay attention to the pics. Not saying all of them do it, but the one we went thru didn't catch it.

I appreciate the heads up with the ticket scanners, but I am in rides. But I can pass the word if you would like.

As far as the show goes, the few things people are upset with are 1-the song that repeats inappropriate language throughout 2-the girls dressed in lingerie and 3-the guy hangs himself (hope I didn't give anything away there). But there again, there are many, many, many warning signs that get ignored.

And for letting the little ones in, you know that CF is not going to turn away even one person as that means that more money being spent in the park. As much as we would like to forbid their entrance for their own sake, we can't. Trust me, I asked.

To me, it's not that they shouldn't be allowed in, but CF shouldn't cater to ppls complaints and change the event due to ppl who didn't heed the CLEARLY posted warnings. It completely ruins (at least for me) why Scarowinds is such a good event. It's the one time of the year when the park stops catering to children and families and focuses more on teens and adults. The thought of CF modifying halloween haunt for children and families really aggravates and angers me for some reason.

It isn't like Carowinds has nothing for the kids. There are a couple of area's just for smaller kids during the day. Take them to that. Scarowinds is more for older people. The signs are posted everywhere. I agree with you, don't complain because you didn't heed the warning signs. The people that think they can run EVERYTHING and have it THEIR way really need to shut the hell up and stay home. Scarowinds don't cater to individuals, they cater to a larger audience.
