Hello CarowindsConnection Users!

I wanted to toss some ideas out there to the Carowinds Fan Base. I've been approached by a few people with ideas about creating a Carowinds Museum with old signage, photos, brochures, press kits, ride parts, etc. If not permanantly, I will definitely do it for Coaster Stock, and I welcome any of your old Carowinds memorabilia. (Of course we'll have each item wrapped in plastic with your names on it or in glass encasings).

So...what kind of cool Carowinds artifacts do you all possess?

-Employee Handbooks from 2005 and 2006
-Paramount's Carowinds Arcade token
-Winterfest 2005 Associate Comp Ticket Stub and regular ticket stub
-ACE discount ticket stub
-2005 Platinum pass
-2006 parking receipt
-2005 Winterfest Park Map
-Various season pass mailers
-Education Days 2008 ads
-2006 Rides Dept Training Manual
-2006 Boomerang Bay Media Preview VIP pass
-2005 Rides Dept Training Manual
-Letter of selection for working Winterfest 2005
-Various Reemployement papers from 2006
-2005 and 2006 Pay stubs
-48" Wristband from 2006
-Paramount's Carowinds Pucho
-My and my wife's Employee uniforms from 2006 including nametags
-And a little yellow paper that I wish I didn't have in my collection!

A Carowinds Muesum is something I would love to see Carowinds have. If you know where to look you can find remains from the Carowinds & Carolina Railroad, Monorail, Carolina Sternwheeler, and more.

I'd like to contribute but I'm not much of a collector.

But, oooh, what I wouldn't do to lay my eyes on Rollernut's 2006 parking receipt! :)

A carowinds museum would be a great addition to the park! I don't have that much, I have a winterfest coffee cup, scarowinds 2007 and 2008 maps, carowinds 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 maps, 2005 season pass, a show schedule and announcement of a Q&A with Jamie McMurray, vintage top gun and borg assimilator t shirts, and I know most of that is recent but just mentioning the stuff I have.

I have at least 1 or more brochure from every year since the parks 1973 opening (I may not have 2007 or 2008 brochures). Also have several old large fold out maps. I also have the original 16mm film which I have converted to DVD, on the building of Carowinds that was released in 1974 and shown on local TV stations. Also have an original 33rpm record of the Carowinds theme song from 1973. I have plenty of old postcards and was lucky to find a collection of original 8x10 aerial photos (color & B&W) of the park while under construction. One of my most prized possessions is a press kit from the opening year showing the proposed Carowinds hotel with the monorail stop. I have just about every press kit since 1992. Yes, I was a huge collector of Carowinds stuff at one time and although my interests have changed over the past year or so (especially since the park has gone downhill over the past 4 years), I would be hard pressed to offer these to a museum unless they took full responsibility for their safety. I already gave David Mandt & the park a copy of the 16mm film short back in 2000.

Thank you all for providing this information. Swampfox, I absolutely understand your concern regarding responsibility. My plan is to have an employee/security staffed at all times and to put the items in glass encasings. I'm really more concerned with items from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Anyone who loans items will get credit for them. Most of the 2000s I already have. Old photos are a plus.

Thanks again, guys!

I think it's a great idea. That was one of the things I loved about Cedar Point. We kinda stumbled into it.

As far as old stuff, I have one of the large maps from somewhere around 78-80. I think White Lightnin is on there.

I also have some old personal photos from 73 and then later in the 70s as well.

A museum would be awesome! I wish I had some stuff to contribute.. but the only thing I have are maps. Coaster Stock sounds like a lot of fun and I hope I will be able to come!

On another note...Dani.. did you ever have any luck with finding some of the music from scarowinds? I dont know what it is but I just want to get that music..I love some of the themes that are played. Maybe selling some CD's of Scarowinds would be profitable..I know I would get one...

I think it is a GREAT idea!!!! This is something that I really think would be AWESOME in the park. I think one of the most interesting things would be the different types of names tags for associates that have been used since the opening of the park.

It would be nice to have a merchandise store there with park specific items. I know that I would nearly kill for a copy of the Carowinds Theme song.

Well, thank you for "opening your door" to suggestions.

Sweet! I have always wanted a CD soundtrack of the themes from scarowinds. I know one year I e-mailed and they told me one of the songs and I got it. If it happens, I will definately have to get it. I like that theme that was playing in the line for final summons (i think) this past year.

BoRgAsSiMiLaToR, I recognized one of the themes played in the Corn Stalkers maze as Masked Ball by Jocelyn Pook, from the Eyes Wide Shut soundtrack. I remember being impressed by the creep factor.

I did look into it and our IT guys said that it had just been a mix CD.
