I know there is probably stuff like this out there, but I've never seen anything like this guy has.

He apparently liked to drive around with the old VHS camera and film at the same time. lol I never do that with my digital camera!!!

Carowinds is towards the end, but the rest is worth a look. Charlotte has come a long way baby.

I almost started a new thread, but I was a good boy and searched first. Come to find, here it is, so i'll just update it.

I was looking at a group on Facebook and found this video linked from youtube. The second link posted above me is no longer good, and the OP's link only shows Thunder Road. It's from the same person the OP used, but shows the monorail, White Lightning, and the Skytower lit for Christmas. They do show pics while riding Thunder Road as well in this one.

The second half they are driving through Pineville. The Pineville section was intersting to me, since that's where my Grandparents lived and Mother grew up, so It was a blast from the past. Interesting to, is the price of gas (shown later) at a gas station at Park Rd Ext and Pineville-Matthews Road. It was $0.69!!!! Talk about your good old days.

It's interesting how much is completely different and how much is exactly the same. Shoneys and KFC, the way Thunder Road looks when you pass by it, the gas station that is now Exxon/Wendys that used to be Gulf. How cool Wonder what a Carowinds 2030 video would look like!

I cant imagine, back then people thought thunder road was a monster roller coaster. 20 years from now, Intimidator will be a baby.

Nice find, that brought back some memories - of both Carowinds and Charlotte right after I graduated high school. It is interesting to see how some things are kinda the same, and others far different.

On another video by the same guy that came up on the suggestions, you get to see Independence Blvd before they redid it. That was quite the road back then, as it was really only 4 lanes wide but painted for 6 (3 per side) so instead of 12 foot lanes you had 8 foot lanes. Plus there were several interesting curves and lots of bumps. You'd literally be inches away from a tractor trailer on one side and light poles on the other, bouncing around on rough pavement. The big trucks had to drive in the center lanes, as their mirrors could hit obstructions in the outer lanes. Fun times.

Here's a really good and long clip of Carowinds from 1983. There are scenes of many defunct rides such as Wild Bull, Whirling Dervish, Black Widow, Flying Dutchman, Monorail, Powder Keg Flume, White Lightnin' and many other scenes showing the Carolina Cyclone, Goldrusher, Thunder Road, Scooby Doo, etc.

Whoa, that brings back some memories! Carowinds, the really short shorts  we had back then, etc.

I thought of this exact time period when Wes and I were making our way past Rip Roarin' Rapids on Monday when we saw the line was all the way to the entrance. It made me think of how when the ride opened in '82 how long the lines were for this all the time.

Awesome find, Ken.
