Has anyone been to Six Flags Over Georgia? I'm planning on going on opening day (Feb 28th) and I'm wondering how long the lines usually are (particularly during this time of year). I'm mostly going just to ride Goliath, Superman, Batman, and Acrophobia, and any others would be a bonus (I'd rather ride these rides a couple times over again than ride the others). Would it be worth getting a Flash Pass?

Also, I heard Ninja is pretty rough. How is it in comparison with Hurler?

From what I've heard, the park is pretty much dead at the beginning of the season, especially opening weekend since they open so early. Probably no need for a Flash Pass.

Go on a Sunday if at all possible. I went 3-4 years ago on their 2nd weekend of operation on a Saturday, and it was fairly busy. What compounded this was that they were running one train on most everything until later in the day, so the lines were longer than they should've been to start with. It was weather much like we had a few weekends ago, which seemed to draw people out of the woodwork. If it's a bit more normal towards the cool side, it should be less crowded.

I've used the Flash Pass / Q-Bot a few times and it can be a lifesaver if the place is crowded, but it isn't cheap. There are usually some coupons if you get a season pass that makes it a bit better, but it probably wouldn't be needed unless they're unusually busy. One of the rides it came in most handy for - Deja Vu - isn't there anymore.

I'd ride every coaster there to form your own opinion - I like most everything there to some degree, and consider it to have the best all-around coaster collection of any park I've been to. I thought that prior to Goliath, and that great ride only cemented my thinking. Ninja IS rough, to be sure - but it's ridable for me in the very back car, just like most Arrow / Vekoma rides with that style train. It has some amazing headchoppers and a nice setting, so worth a ride or two to me. Most likely you'll get a pretty rough ride on Scream Machine and / or Georgia Cyclone. I've never had a visit where both were running well at the same time. When it's running well, though, Cyclone has some of the most insane airtime anywhere in the back car.

Oh and be sure to ride Mindbender, a true classic.

I also got to reading on other sites and heard that the hotels in the neighborhood (the ones within walking distance) aren't very clean or safe. Is Six Flags really in a bad neighborhood?

It really is. You'd be better off staying about 10 exits away like i did. That is unless you really want to chance it.

well I guess im just a tough guy cause I stayed within viewing distance and a 2 minute drive and I had no problems at all with anyone or anything.

I've stayed at those hotels there numerous times and never had an issue.

I've stayed at the Days Inn and the La Quinta at the SFOG exit before, and never had any issues at either. I think both of those are something else now, so not sure if they're better or worse. Also there was a nicer looking Sleep Inn, and a Baymont? or something that was built about 5-6 years ago which looked to be pretty nice.

The La Quinta wasn't really within walking distance, but the other 3 are - and are probably pretty reasonably priced in the spring. When you factor in whatever SF is charging for parking and the convenience, it's usually a pretty good deal. The area immediately near the park wasn't bad at all in my experience.

The exit BEFORE SFOG (coming from Atlanta) is the one to watch out for, from what I've heard. That's Fulton Industrial Blvd., which apparently gets pretty interesting at night. Many of the hotels here advertise being close to Six Flags, or even use Six Flags in their name, so be careful if booking online not to get any of these.

I'm looking at staying at the Sleep Inn across from Six Flags the night before and walking over to Six Flags the next morning. It's only $65 plus tax, so the savings from parking will probably save me some money.

Thanks for the advice. I'm thinking that the people who think it's a bad neighborhood are the kind of people that think Charlotte is scary and people are always getting shot, so they won't go to Carowinds (I've tried inviting friends and they've refused to go cause they're scared of Charlotte, lol)

I live in a pretty country red-neck town (Morganton) in the foothills of the mountains. I think it's cause they're racist or they watch the news and hear about violence in Charlotte and think it's a crime-ridden city. This one girl thinks I'm crazy for wanting to go to UNC-Charlotte. She's like "Don't go there Aaron! You're gonna get shot!" I just laugh. I spend about a month every summer in Detroit with my Dad, so it's pretty funny to me. To be honest, don't know why I was worried the neighborhood in Atlanta considering my Dad's neighborhood in Detroit.

Well, I drove down Friday after calling Six Flags to ask if they'd be open due to the rain. They said they'd only close rides temporarily if it rains. I checked into my hotel around 7:30 pm and around 8 PM, there was a message on their website saying they would be closed Saturday due to weather. I was so mad. I spent over $120 on gas and hotel to get there and didn't even get to go. On top of that, from noon to 7 it had completely stopped raining and there were even spots where it was clear and sunny. I made up for it by going to the movies (I wanted to see an 11:30 movie, but because the theater that was supposed to have that movie was flooded from the night before, they gave me free movie passes to the next showing, so I didn't even pay for my movie), then I went on the CNN Tour (which was alright, but had it cost just a little more, I'd have been disappointed), and then I went to World of Coca Cola, which was pretty cool, although some of the drinks were horrible (I knew about the Beverly so I didn't even try it). Still, Free Movies/CNN/WOCC doesn't even come close to equaling Six Flags.

From what I hear, they closed due to damage from tornadoes the night before, not because of the actual weather on Saturday. It's probably worth writing the park about; who knows you might be able to score some free tickets or something.
