Just got this in the Funtimes newsletter:

Carowinds is announcing a new program to help families on a tight budget still enjoy a summer of fun and excitement for less with the introduction of the 2009 WOW Pass.

The WOW Pass program allows consumers to receive unlimited admission to Carowinds any public operating day from March 28 until September 7, 2009 for only $59.99 per person (ages 3 and older). This program does not include any benefits, parking, or admission to SCarowinds’ Halloween Haunt.

This program was designed as a response to park patrons who are more budget-conscious due to the current economic environment. For $13 more than a regular one day admission ticket, the WOW Pass is a cost-effective alternative for money-saving families who have had to cut back on vacation expenses for 2009.

A WOW Pass may only be purchased at http://www.carowinds.com or at the Carowinds main gate on any public operating day. This program not valid on previous purchases.

Personally, I think this is only going to be helpful to people who live in the area who maybe don't have a car and take the bus or something. Although, if you're buying a lot of passes, and only going to come a few times, it may be helpful. Or if you'd bought your passes at the end of last season, you'd have paid that price and gotten all the benefits.

A regular season pass that includes parking is 75 dollars. Parking is how much now? 10 dollars?
Wow Pass has no parking, and is 59.99. 59.99 plus 10x 2 = $79.99. The point of a season pass is to more than twice a season. A two day is 52.99 + 20 parking for both days = 72.99. Sorry, as much I can stand behind Carowinds as a fan, I think the wow pass is a ploy* since I doesn't include parking. Plus a regular pass includes SCarowinds which makes it a better value.
*The ploy is the lower price that would actually wind up costing you more. The main age group that will benefit from this pass will be the 13-15 or like Aaron said people who don't have a car. Another point I like to make(Sorry, if I offend anyone with this generalization, but if I do I hope you are the exception to it.) is get a bunch of teens in a group, and they start acting stupid, tear things up, and run off families with little kids which I think is Carowinds' biggest market. Plus some teens are downright scary looking to me.

Another thing it may be good for is if you have a large family who isn't going to go after labor day. For example, a family of 6: One person buys the $79.99 pass and the rest of the family buys the $59.99 pass. That's about $380 total. If you bought 6 of the passes at $74.99, that'd be about $450. Buying the WOW pass would save that particular family $70. But to be honest, the WOW pass probably isn't a good deal for most people...only people in certain unique situations. And anyway, coming back to it..had those people bought early...they'd pay that price and get all the bene's, soo...yea, not that great of a deal.

None of the Season Pass tickets deals are that good at Carowinds/Cedar Fair when you consider what Six Flags is charging for theirs this year, only $49.95, and you can visit the other parks! Yes, it costs a stunning $15 to park, but in the grand scheme, the Six Flags deal is great. I have a large family and really, after having 25 visits to Carowinds in the past four years, the Cobra is just "another" boomerang coaster, and the cost for another year is too much. I figure that this year, I can buy the Six Flags(SFOG) pass, visit once, head up the east coast and visit America, Great Adventure and Riverside, all for less that I would pay for a WOW pass with CF...not to mention the 30 credits we'll pick up by visiting three parks we've never been to... will have to see if that Coaster2010 project materializes for next year and then consider a 2010 pass... still, I'll miss our home park this year...
