For two weeks in a row the flyers have not been running, and I walked by today and all the tubs are sitting on the ground.

I wonder if they are just doing some maintenance to them, or there was an issue.

Before I joined this forum I had no idea the flyers were that fun/important. Ive only been on them once and that was the year they put them in. I guess I need to learn how to snap and see what the fuss is about.

our flyers require very little effort to snap them (thanks KI), especially on the windy days.

I've never been on the flyers, because to me they seem like a throw-up machine...but can someone tell me why they are so popular? In a way, they seem dangerous. I mean, I've seen them slam into the ground before. Well maybe not slam, but it sure seemed like it.

Have you ever seen someone who is really good at flying them? How many amusement rides can you name where you actually control the ride? The thing I like most about them is just taking it to its maximum limit, and trying to do better than I have in the past; meanwhile shocking all the Nick Central kiddies (and their parents) out of line.

Hopefully they are back up soon, I did want to go this weekend... :?

I'm with Jay on this. Making the folks in line ohhh and ahhh and parents leaving the line with their kids because the ride is "dangerous" is what it's all about.

It's a shame they have had problems this year. I never once saw them non-operational at Kings Island. This ride was built in the late 1930's

In the mornings, us ACEers would get walked back early to the Beast, there were a few times when we would leave the Beast line and go straight to the Flyers and spend a good hour on them before the people came to see what all the noise was.

We used to have 10 coaster-buffs one in each tub dive-bombing the heck out of that thing, we would always outdo each other, too! One time, I got it just right where all 4 of my cables went limp and the tub basically "floated" for one brief second... and once gravity kicked it, it landed pretty good and hard.

One time, this Mother yelled at my friend to stop scaring her children with his flying... oh man, what a laugh!
I would gladly trade half of KI's rides to get that back.

Heres a great video of what its like to have skilled pilots on that thing:

Most of the local enthusiasts hit this ride first thing in the morning as well. The usual schedule was to hit Top Gun ERT when they used to have that, then head straight to the flyers before the crowds got in there. Quite often it was like virtual ERT where you didn't have to get up for several cycles.

There is nothing like getting that moment of weightlessness when you get a perfect stall, followed by a nice SLAM as the cables go SNAP.

Oh, and with the ride being IN the kids area here, having people freaked out by the antics of good "flyers" is pretty common. I try to time my really good snaps for just in front of the queue line. :D

^ I would totally do that to the Kings Island kids! I would time it just right to "stall" right in front of the gate and then... BAMM!!!

^ I have to agree. I always swoop in right at the gate and totally stall to scare people. It's the most fun thing to do at Carowinds, I don't care how old you are. If you can snap the scooters to the (minimum) horizontal line it's too much fun.
