If Carowinds was to build a new roller coaster, what would you be hoping for? This has nothing to do with what is realistic or possible, but purely what you would do if you were in charge and money wasn't necessarily relevant.

I posted examples beside each one just in case some people are unfamiliar with the manufacturers or ride types.

This is too hard of a choice for me. I love goliath over georgia as well as sheikra...

While the only intamin I have been on, as far as hyper, is sros at sf america coasters like goliath walibi and those megalites do look tempting.

Im gonna have to think about this one for a while...

For what it's worth, I am the Intamin wooden vote. I don't think that would be the right move for the park at all (the right move is what they are doing right now), but from a selfish standpoint I think it is what I would like to have. I like Voyage better than El Toro, but the Intamin rides being infinitely easier to maintain, I would probably go with that.

I really love maverick, it's my favorite coaster, but I'd really want to see an intamin hyper because a millenium force down here would bring this park to an entirely different level. Cedar point is full of amazing intamins though, so really I wouldn't mind anything from that company.

I'd be quite happy with a GCI, GG or Intamin woodie, obviously. Several others on the list would be very good candidates as well.

However, I voted Beemer hyper. The park needs something with a bit of "wow factor", something big. I'd certainly be happy with a GOOD Intamin hyper as well, but I just don't have the faith in them that I do B&M. They haven't built one in years. I'd be worried that after the numerous incidents on their rides over the years that they'd tone things down too much, or make the train too cramped, something. B&M certainly isn't as adventurous, but seem to have made really good rides with Goliath, Behemoth and Diamondback.

AFTER a hyper, some world-class wood would be a great move, but not before. With 3 woodies in the park already and 12 coasters in all, a woodie isn't going to generate much buzz for this park with Joe Public. Sure, we know that none of our wood is world-class, but Joe Public is just going to see another "old" wooden coaster. Obviously after riding a good GCI, they'll realize it's better than Thunder Road, but they're not as likely to go check that out as some monstrous steel coaster visible from I-77.

So I say build a hyper, draw the people in, and down the road a few years treat 'em to some real quality wood. Then to round things out, the park could use a launcher of some sort.

I guess I let reality in too much. I'd really like a Voyage-style ride more than about anything else, as that's my #1 coaster. However, the terrain at Carowinds just wouldn't seem to fit that kind of ride, so I stuck with what was more plausible.

They are still building them but just not as tall as they use to...this one was built last year.

^^ Ah, didn't think to look up any European / Asian ones in recent years. I guess I haven't read any reports of any newer "HOLY #$#$#@!" rides such as SROS or GeForce so assumed they hadn't built anything in awhile.

^ Guess I was mistaken on that point too :D

My choices in order:

1- B&M Hyper - Reasons: The restraints are so comfortable, the ride is so re-rideable and the ride is so frackin' fun. I have been on 3 B&M hypers now, and all three are in my top 5. And Diamondback is my #1 steel. So you can see what I think of them.

2- Intamin prefab woodie- I have yet to ride one, but they just look insane and great rides. I don't think this would ever happen though, considering the park has 3 woodies already.

3 - GCI or Gravity Group woodie - The 2 GCI's and 1 Gravity Group wooden coasters I've been on were all great and I'd love either builder to show up at Carowinds. I'm not as big a wooden coaster fan as Jonathan, but I do love a good, fast, smooth, insane wooden coaster. Did I mention Beast is running good again?

4- Intamin hyper - I've only been on DC's Superman (and Millie if you count it), so its probably not fair to compare but I just didn't like the experience nearly as much as the 3 B&M hypers I've been on. Plus I don't like their t-bar as much as far as comfort goes compared to the B&M restraint.

EDIT: Actually after looking at my top 10, the 3 B&M hypers are my 1,2 and 3. Millie is #4 now.

I voted for B&M hyper because I absolutely love Apollo's Chariot. Still my favorite coaster. After that, things would go like this:

2. Intamin vertical drop looper. Maverick is #2 steel for me. I am not impressed by MF.

3. GG, GCI, or Intamin wooden.

4. B&M Dive coaster

I would prefer 3 types. They are all really good ideas. I will stick to 3, in terms of what I think the park needs.

1. B&M Hyper: I have been waiting for this thing ever since I went to the park for the first time and started to read these forums back in the day. I thing the park really needs a signature attraction. Great Adventure has Kingda Ka. King's Island has the Beast. Six Flags Over Georgia has Goliath. The parks needs something like that, so when you think Carowinds you think of that. It would just be an overall nice addition to the park. Also, no I will not use the usual carowinds hyper joke here. I would get hate for it and it has gotten a little old to some people. However deep inside, I still hope for it.

2. GCI or Gravity Group Woodie: Lets face it, Carowinds needs new wood. These rides are insane and have reinvented the wooden coaster. I would love for one to come to carowinds.

3. Dive Coaster: The shear thrill of 90 degrees straight down is terrifying, fast, and smooth as heck with a nice splashdown thrown in there. This would be a nice addition to the park also.
