Does anyone know where/when I can buy a Gold Pass? They're not on the Carowinds site. Are they only available at specific times? Thanks! :)

I believe Paramount decided not to offer gold passes this year. Probably because they loose quite a bit of money off of them, with free parking and all.

Good question. The site doesn't explain what a 'Platinum Pass' is or what the benefits of it are, so I guess the only thing I would recommend would be to call the park. I know at the end of last year they were selling regular season passes that had free parking, so maybe that is what this is.

*EDIT* Looks like Duke answered it.

The season pass situation for this year is pretty confusing. In years past, they had the regular pass, the Gold pass, and in the middle of the year a Wow card. All got free admission of course, plus ERT and some other benefits. The Gold got free parking and 10-20% discounts on food and merchandise. Other Paramount parks seemed to have a seperate parking pass, and might've also offered a Gold pass with some perks.

This year Carowinds only seems to have the regular pass, with no Gold pass or parking pass offered. While this doesn't hurt those of us that got the free parking addon if we renewed last year, I have to think they'll at least have a parking pass option for people buying a pass this year if they don't have some form of Gold pass. Or it could be that the "Platinum" pass as they're now calling it includes free parking, but it doesn't say. You can't really tell from the websites either - as PKI lists a parking option but PKD doesn't, although I'm pretty sure they have offered a parking pass in the past.

PKD has Gold passes with some perks like a special parking area and early ride access, but it seems they have no regular season pass option. I recall that they were going to allow people who bought the "regular" pass at the end of last year to get this for $5 or $10 more. I wonder if the different colors of passes are to keep the Carowinds passholders from getting benefits at PKD, and vice-versa. In visiting PKI and PKD, and hearing from friends that have, there's often quite a bit of confusion about benefits from one park to the next. I've had to pay parking with my Carowinds Gold pass one day at PKI, and not pay the next. I was let in for Ricochet ERT at PKD with my Carowinds pass but a friend wasn't the previous week.

I'm hoping we get a season pass mailer this year so we know what the park will be doing for ERT - they were somewhat vague about this in their ads last year - and what other season-pass benefits will be. I hope we get some discounts or have an option for a Gold card with discounts - that made eating at the park almost reasonable. A full meal at Outer Hank's was still $7.50, but not that much more than heading out to Wendy's and more convenient - paying the full $10 makes heading out seem like a better move. Of course you can't hear Vortex and Hurler from Wendy's so it doesn't have quite the same ambience ;)

I don't think they are going to do a gold pass but it would be nice because all the other parks are doing this. I would like a gold season pass

Look for information on the “Platinum Pass” shortly. The park is preparing for a new promotion that will allow “platinum” pass holders to enter the park early and enjoy exclusive ride time on different rides and/ or water works each week. As you have noticed the park is late on this promotion as it really will not be worthwhile until full-time operation.

You guys make a good point and it makes me wonder if i updated my pass last year for nothing. I got my pass cause i go up to pki every summer if they will not allow you to enter the other parks like they use to then i wasted my money on this piece of plastic.

Get out that piece of plastic and look on the back of it. You will find that you can get into all the Paramount park with it.

From everything I have heard from the park, there will be a parking pass that will be available to buy as an addon to either your regular pass or your platinum pass.

The passes will work just fine, as always, for getting into the other parks. What may be inconsistent - and has been in the past - is benefits from park to park, say at PKD with a Carowinds pass. It'd be a bonus if on a PKD trip we got the early entry, etc. up there as well, but I can see them offering that only to that park's passholders

I figured they about have to offer a parking pass option, they just aren't putting it on the website. Maybe we'll even get hassle-free parking at the other parks, since one problem in the past is that the Gold pass didn't mention parking on it anywhere

I'd assume that we'll also have the opportunity to upgrade season passes bought at the end of 2003 to be upgraded to the Platinum - or we'll get the benefits anyways. PKD apparently will charge $10 to upgrade a 2004 pass bought at the end of the 2003 season to the Gold pass which has the ERT and other benefits.

I'm going to be curious to see how the early entry will work - the smart thing would seem to be to open Top Gun like always plus Borg since it's the new coaster, and on busier days open some of the other main attractions early as well. If they only do it as "early rides on Vortex every Tuesday, early rides on Taxi Jam every Wednesday, etc." and don't have ERT on TG and / or Borg it's not going to be too great. Hopefully if they do alternate, they'll have TG and Borg the majority of the time, or in addition to other rides.

I first rode TG with the ERT I got from the Gold Pass. I waited in line for five minutes and then 10 minutes later they let everybody else on and the wait went up to like an hour. I will always be an advocate for ERT.

Sometimes the ERT is not just for season pass holders, last year I rode Top Gun 10 times before the park offically opened without a season pass. They didn't have anyone at the start of the quene to check if everybody had one. I would just walk by the "honest" people waiting by the entrance while I just walked in repeatedly. I even got front row....twice.... :D

Can anyone confirm that the Regular or Platinum Pass will offer free parking? My family hasn't gotten our passes yet and if none of our passes doesn't have free parking then I will only be able to go to Carowinds only once this year.
