(Yes this is a mall trip report)

On my visit to Carowinds last Saturday I realized I hadn't been to the new mall since the 'retheme' so I walked over to check it out.

For those that remember the old Crossroads Mall was a pretty run down, always completely empty, just kind of depressing place to be. I remember everyone wanting Carowinds to buy it and just put it out of its misery. Through the magic of the internets I found some pictures on a blog.

The blog has a few more pics so I will quickly plug it here: http://livemalls.blogspot.com/2006/12/crossroads-mall-fort-mill-south.html

So back to my visit Saturday..

Sign looking nice.
Image

I remember I was shocked the first time I went to Carowinds and saw the entire thing painted red. As you can see its also PACKED.
Image

Here is the mall directory, you can click on this one for a higher resolution.
Image

This is the new food court area.
Image

Other random hallway themeing.
Image

A MASSIVE playground takes the space of a lot of the old food court tables and chairs.
Image

They also have a new arcade with lots of games.
Image

This one caught my eye as it is like the Action F/X Theater but for two people.
Image

The anchors are still there in different capacities, but the rest of the mall has these TINY little stores that sell all kind of different things. There are hundreds of them all throughout the mall.
Image

More stores.
Image

They also have some really good murals to add to the entire Latin theme.
Image

I would like to know what city this is supposed to be.
Image

Uhhh k?
Image

Ten percent discount to park employees and season pass holders.. note it doesnt specifically mention Carowinds though.
Image

Moving outside a Merry-go-round can be seen. I was browsing some pics on the official site and this area was a small ice skating rink in the Winter.
Image

They even have.. HELICOPTER RIDES ..just right outside the mall.
Image

Quick plug for the helicopters.
Image

Obviously its not Concord Mills or anything but I'm glad to have something else worthwhile near the park instead of the old empty mall. I wish I had taken more pics but its kind of creepy to be walking around a very crowded mall taking pictures.

Here is the official site: http://www.plazafiestacarolinas.com/site/ they have a lot more pictures of various things. I didn't have any cash on me luckily, I could see myself spending quite a bit in there. I will definitely be back on my next visit to try out the helicopters, but that won't be until July 12th so someone still has time to get the EXCLUSIVE shots first.

I've been over there twice now I think and was shocked at how much they spent on the refurb of the place.

The food court actually is one of the nicer looking ones in Charlotte shockingly.

It's funny how Hamrick's looks exactly like it did in 1989.

It appears to be Charlotte relocated to a South American setting. Bank of America Corporate Center and One Wachovia Center are the two tall buildings.

The playground is almost as fun as a trip next door to the park. Gotta have a kid though.

Try the Fish and Chips at Punta Galapagos. YUMMY!

Don't know cost, but it basically goes up and circles around Carowinds, flys over Cracker Barrel, crosses over I77 and comes back in. Maybe a 5 minute ride, and that is being generous. They must do pretty good business, that thing doesn't sit long before it's taking off again.

According to their website, it's $480.00 per hour.

That must be their regular chopper prices, but definitely isn't what they do there. They just take off and circle Carowinds and come back. We watched them for a while out there a few weeks back with the kids. I wonder if they use these short rides as a marketing thing and advertise their regular packages. I would figure anywhere from $50-$100 for no longer than their up. They could probably make more than $480/hr easily on a good day. I think it would be cool to do though.
