I heard Cliffhanger was going to be open, and 7/1 would be the first day officially open in around 7 years. So I made a day trip out of it, and ended up riding the thing 11 times!

OK here we go...

Image
After 7 long years, it's time I finally get the Cliffhanger credit!

Image
First though I have to face the chairlift of doom!

Image
The park got new chairs since my last trip up there almost 2 years ago.

Image
If I fall, at least I have these nice comfy rocks to fall on.

Image
Is he supposed to be leaning that much?

Image
Ahh! A ferocious bear! They need to play off this and build a wooden coaster called the Grizzly, oh wait, somebody already took that name.

Image
Oh good, the rocks are getting bigger.

Image
Hmm.. what is that through the trees?

Image
I think it's a coaster!

Image
The media heard I was coming.

Image
Station. Up a freakin' huge hill to climb!

Image
Yahoo! It works!

Image
This thing has a pretty wicked whip in the front and especially back coming out of the loop.

Image
The train is certainly eye-catching.

Image
Speaking of the train...I really thought the seats were very comfy, if they did remind me a bit of a B&M invert train and a Hypersonic train combined.

Image
Your exit ramp view.

Image
The park can't seem to decide on the name. In some stuff they call it "Cliffhanger" in others "Cliff Hanger".

Image
They left one of the old cars out to look at.

Image
Looks oh so comfy, but I'll stick with the new train.

Image
Best station view ever.

Image
Yo! That ride was wiggidy wiggidy whack!

Image
Credit #161. Cha-ching!

Image
I guess in Ghost Town, you need two locks to protect you from the bears.

Image
I think this is still recovering from what happened to it from the G.A.P. event in 07.

Image
Time to take the bus up to the top of the mountain. When you come off the chair lift, there is the coaster there and a few other things.

Image
New signage. I like the send up to Mr. Coburn.

Image
A map! A map! My kingdom for a map!

Image
I already had this credit, and I like my internal organs where they are...so I skipped this one.

Image
Am I at Cedar Point? Oh wait, no, there aren't any Intamin lawn ornaments.

Image
Livin' on the edge - Aerosmith

Image
Maggie and her valley greet you.

Image
Wait, how did I get to Freestyle Music Park?

Image
I'll take that little red cabin in the middle.

Image
Still one of the best around.

Image
Yay swings!

Image
What the!?! I rode this in 2007, what the heck is going on? And it looks like they slowed it down and it doesn't tilt anymore! :( :( :(

Image
For you wolf enthusiasts. You know who you are.

Image
It's a whole family. Awe!

Image
Dream Catcher looks good even flying over roofs. Hmmm...like another ride at Carowinds.

Image
I'm expecting a bobcat to jump off this and eat me alive any minute.

Image
No thanks to the whirlpool of death. I got the credit last time and I'm almost normal again.

Image
LOL at one of their two shooting galleries. This one has a working skunk.

Image
Look at that stinker shoot!

Image
Ready...aim...

Image
Fire!

Image
This is how far the thing shoots! I'm not joking!

More to come...

Great!! I see what you mean about the style of the seat. At least they left the OTSR's off. I'm sure some of the larger people are gonna be ticked that they can't squeeze between those arm rest though....

Thanks for the midway shots too. They've done a pretty nice job up there. I haven't been since 1992 so I look forward to getting up there again.

Do they still have the Gravity Shack? One of those tilted houses where balls roll uphill. That was a free attraction they had at one time. They are kinda fun.

They still have the Mystery Hill attraction in Blowing Rock for those who like these kinda of illusions.

^^ Ken they do not have the gravity shack, and I walked through the whole park. There are a few areas that are still closed up, that might have housed it.

The little museum they had down near the chair lift exit (on the mountain) was even closed for some reason. It's a nice collection of stuff through the years. Every park should have one.

And as far as the train seats, I don't see them being that hard to fit in on the sides, but on the stomach they could be for larger folks. I still struggle with my weight and I'm not small, but I fit fine. I'd say anyone with a 44 inch waist or larger might not fit, because of the way they are pushing down the lap bar until it basically touches (but not really) the wraparound part of the seat.

And I ran out of space when I did my original post, (posting on another site), anyway the seat-belts are retractable, and are very much like those on Dragster and Millie (where they are located), but they are not nearly as hard to mess with and there is tons of belt, unlike those Intamin lawn ornaments to the north.

Here we go again...

Image
Their scrambler is actually one of the more intense one's I've been on. Not insane or anything, but still good.

Image
OK now how did I end up at Hard Rock Park?

Image
Time to mosey on into town I reckon.

Image
Just in case you forgot where I was.

Image
Jarsh from GAP will be happy.

Image
It's like a ghost town!

Image
Make up your own corny western caption here.

Image
I think I need to move up here.

Image
Time for a song and a dance.

Image
The pianist looks like he was left up here for the 5 years the park was closed.

Image
Well fiddle dee dee Mr. Butler.

Image
Maybe I can get a ride to town.

Image
Maybe I can get a job.

Image
History and such. Strangely the museum was closed for what reason I don't know.

Image
Burt Reynolds has really seen his better days.

Image
Are you sure I'm at a theme park?

Image
Biggest understatement evar.

Image
Smoking or non-smoking? (Christian billboard joke)

Image
I think they still have services on Sunday.

Image
Looking back into town.

Image
Lake Junaluska (sp?) can be seen from the end of town down near the church.

Image
I think I see something down the mountain.

Image
This guy was scared stiff by Cliffhanger.

Image
Another park with references to boots in an attraction. Keep your boots ON!

Image
Funerals - $1500
Mourners - Extra

LOL

Image
Looks like me without my makeup.

Image
Uh oh, Digger got another victim!

Image
LOL

Image
Well there's another job I don't qualify for.

Image
Uh oh. Looks like trouble may be a brewin'.

Image
This doesn't look good.

Image
Run ya'll!

Image
I said RUN! Tourists.

Image
Time to find some place safe me thinks.

Image
Now THAT is how you run!

Image
Such violence. This reporter asks, why!? (Spongebob joke).

Image
The guy in the Carolina shirt is all "Umm Did I leave the iron on?"

Image
Got him!

Image
The hat gag is still pretty funny.

Image
Can I get a room?

Image
I think that is the road to Cherokee.

Image
OK back to Cliffhanger. Here's the bottom of the lift that is at the end of the ride.

Image
These lines will never do.

Image
Please! No video!

Image
Down they go...

Image
So according to Mind Bender logic, this coaster has 2 loops!

Image
Over the river and through the woods...

Image
She'll be coming up the lift hill when she comes.

Image
Work shed for the coaster.

Image
The trash bags are all part of the theming.

Image
Two of the actors even got a ride in.

Image
You can reach out and about touch the coaster here if you really wanted to lose a finger.

Image
I have no idea what Gigglesoup is, but it sounds down right hilarious.

Image
It has a loop de loop if you didn't know.

Image
Wee!

Image
And that about does it for me...

Image
Ya'll come back now, ya hear?

Image
One final thing, I had some pretty good BBQ here on the way out of town. I couldn't resist stopping at a placed called "Butts on the creek". It was actually really nice being built on a hill overlooking a pretty little creek, with screened windows instead of a normal enclosed restaurant. Until next time...

I see they still have the footers from the old Silver Bullet that never was....You have to look closely in this photo but they are on the hill to the left of the first drop.

Wes, the Gravity Shack use to be between the chair lift and the coaster, just barely out of view in this photo. The little house just sat there in the middle of the asphalt by itself. I wonder if it's still there, but being used as another attraction.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the photos. I've had some great times at Ghost Town, and the old Frontierland that was just up the road (my first Wild Mouse ride was there). Anyone remember Frontierland Amusement Park in Cherokee, NC.
