To get away from the 2010 construction thread...I have decided to post this thread instead!

What is your favorite horror film of all time?

Personally mine is John Carpenter's The Thing. It's has a fantastic setting, great story and premise, and fantastic characters. The acting is superb. The special effects are ok. Everything in my opinon makes it the complete opposite of a teen slasher flick.

Good choice. I enjoyed that one a lot as well. Good horror movies seem to be pretty rare. I would probably go with Alien or Aliens; never could really figure out which one I liked more.

I'm not a big horror movie person. The only horror movie I've seen is Jaws, which some don't even classify as horror. I'd like to start watching them more, especially the new "Orphan" movie that comes out this month. I think that one looks pretty good. Has anyone else seen the commercials?

That movie has sparked my interest too. The poster in the movie theater made up literally jump, that's how creepy that girl is.

I need to rewatch Alien and Aliens, since I have not seen them in years. The only Alien movies that I can really remember are Alien vs. Predator, which was ok, and Aliens vs Predator: Requiem, which I thought was mediocre to put it mildly.

Those aren't really considered part of the series.

Alien - 1979 - directed by Ridley Scott
Aliens - 1986 - directed by James Cameron
Alien3 - 1992 - directed by David Fincher
Alien Resurrection - 1997 - directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet

There is a major drop off after the first two, but I did kind of enjoy the third one.

I haven't actually seen the 4th one. The first two are generally considered to be two of the greatest horror and sci-fi movies ever made if not just plain movies period. The third was decent but a bit derivative and uninspired, which is odd because David Fincher is usually a pretty imaginative director.

This may be trite, but my fave is still The Shining. Stanley Kubrick's version, not the crap Stephen King made for TV.
Creepiest classical soundtrack ever, groundbreaking Steadicam work, and only ONE optical effect shot.
Not to mention a little perverse. REDRUM.

And might I suggest Exorcist 3?

That scene will make you poop your pants.
