I would like to see Vortex reborn with floorless sitdown trains. I was watching my old Vortex media day video I took in 1992 and noticed the excitement of the media, engineers, contractors, and of course the ACE folks, at this new B&M marvel. The Vortex was especially beautiful with the reflection off the water from the Sternwheeler lagoon. The media had set up their cameras on a deck perched at the top of the former Smurf Island which made for some incredible video and photos.

Now, Vortex's popularity is waning somewhat from what I gather. Most people I talk to do not like stand-up coasters that much anymore for a variety of reasons I have heard.

So, what about a rebirth of the Vortex? Floorless trains and a redesign of the station to accommodate them.

And top it off with a dome over the upward helix? Make it pitch black with strobe lights, along with the roar of a B&M train to make it sound as if you were flying into the center of a tornado. Any takers? I could stand it!

I have always said Vortex would be awesome...if it was a floorless. I hope to god they would do all the things that you said, but I dunno if that would happen. *crosses fingers*

^Can b&m do that? Can they put floorless coaster trains on tracks designed for stand-up trains?

They would have to test forces but they could if the forces were right.

And in no way shape or form should Cobra, Reptar, or Hurler be removed just cause.

Who said anything about removing Cobra, Reptar or Hurler? (Although it'd be nice to have the latter removed or completely re-tracked by a respectable company anyway.)

This exact debate about 'Floorless trains on a Stand-up' is going on right now at a different forum. Someone mentioned that stand-ups are designed for different forces and can't accommodate floorless trains. I don't see a difference, or why it would matter, but that's just me. I'm sure someone has a technical answer.

^Well, that doesn't make too much sense to me because the human body can take greater forces being exerted on it in a sitting position than in a standing position. Not to mention Vortex's layout is pretty tame compared to other floorless coasters. The only really high g-forces on Vortex you would have to consider would be the loop. I think it would be more of a problem trying to design a floorless train to fit the ride - it certainly wouldn't be the standard length, for one.

I, for one, love hurler. It is (i think) the best roller coaster in the park, mainly because it is one of the only ones that i can ride and reride without getting sick. I know people complain about how rough it is, but I LOVE the way you're thrown about, especially in the backseat (best seat!!).

Then again, i love pipeline peak bodyslides, so I may be just crazy.

I want thunder road to go backwards again, loved it. Could you imagine going backwards on hurler that would be awesome.... I dont really like standup coasters but if they would modify vortex to be longer with more inversions then I think it would be one of the better rides in the park, I dont think i would enjoy it if it was floorless because its just to short... Afterburn is still my favorite in the park and probaly always will be depending on the new one next year, although the more i ride cobra the more I like it.

I would like for them to tear down the old rapids and build a new rapids worth riding and some flats are really needed in Thrill zone.

What I predict?
2010: B&M Hyper Coaster
2011: Nothing much new . Maybe a flat ride
2012: Who knows.

What I want?
2010" B&M Hyper
2011: An Intamin exellerator ( Small , compact coaster) (Most likely not.)

Build my Parking Garage to free up the rest of the parking lot.
Install more updated flats
Install updated water rides in the Bay
Install updated water rides like the Flume and Rapids
Fix Mr. Hurler
Leave Vortex alone, well maybe redo or take out the rolling twist of pain.

I agree with you on this one. Hurler, (When you ride it in the first car ONLY) is really awesome. I do not find it rough and painful. I am a big fan of woody twisters. I love the layout, the curves and the airtime. I have never understood all of the complaints about this coaster. Now when you ride it in the middle or rear, it will paralyze you, yes, I agree, but the front car is no problem to me and I am past 40.

As for me, when it comes to coasters, one of my favorite style coaster is a B&M floorless. I would love to see the current 2010 assumed B&M coaster to be a hyper floorless. Now that would be awesome. On a smaller, more realistic scale of this, reading about reworking Vortex with floorless trains is a great idea. Never thought of that before.

As for woodies, no company can come close to GCI in my opinion. An awesome Thunderhead, Prowler or Kentucky Rumbler style would be great to me.

I am not a fan of launched coasters. They have too much down time. Just look at the history of Dragster and Kingda Ka.

One thing the park needs for sure is a big time thrill flat ride.
