General Carowinds discussion

I've never been to it. There was a discussion on the Kings Dominion site about Carowinds not having space. I was wondering how large the camp ground is and if that space is counted when the park gives the acreage (about 100 acres) for the park? Also is the campground adjacent to the park proper, to a point where it could be used for future expansion land if the park needed it? :?: I don't think I have ever read anyone address this.

Go to Google Maps and drill down to the area around Carowinds. The camp grounds are back behind Thunder Road/Water Park. The entrance is off the employee lots road. I would say the size in area is around half to 3/4 the size of the park. Lots of area. Not sure, but I doubt it is included in the area, and not sure they would ever want to turn it into part of the park. There is lots of area in the front of Carowinds, between 77 and the entrance road that could also be used/turned into parking for expansion. I could see them doing this before converting the campground.

I doubt it's included in the acreage. They just re-did the majority of it not too long ago. It looks very nice, hopefully they will never tear it down for the sake of the park or parking. Would have been an awesome place to camp and hang out as a group for the evening before/after Coaster Stock. Similar to what they do for Phoenix Phall Phunfest.

I drove through there during one of my visits in May and took a few pics.

Speaking of the campground, has anyone ever stayed in the cabins? My daughter wants to spend the night there one night and we were pondering the idea of going in the fall.

The campground area is great! I stayed there many times years ago as a teen with my folks in the RV and I had a great stay in the cabin last year. Its so peaceful and from certain areas in the campground at night, you can see drop zone sitting there all silent with the lights shinning down on the cars. But yeah, the place is a great way to spend a weekend at Carowinds. You get shuttle service to and from the park also!
