The mid-course brake run block will stand 150 feet - higher than any other coaster currently in the park.

With a name like White Lightning, speed is the name of the game. White Lighning is designed to maintain an incredible amount of speed over the duration of the ride. The end brake run is twice that of the average B&M coaster to slow the trains at an acceptable g-force level for its human riders. The trains hit the block still "bolting" at 45 mph.

White Lightning won't just tower above the park - it will command much of the horizon for the entire Eastern edge. Here is the perspective from the "Fairly Odd Coaster".

I like the way it looks but if I may offer a word of advice as someone that has spent way too much time staring at dirt and footers in the ground. There is still going to be some sort of curves after that final helix. The track goes out toward the picnic areas and then goes back in. It won't be straight bunny hops into the brake run.

Derek - I agree. The footers do show us the ride will return at an angle to the main lift and most likely have some twists on the final run to the end brakes. But keep in mind this is merely a concept to demonstate a few aspects. Mainly general size, color scheme, and possible perspectives from different areas of the park. Its not my intention to morph this into the actual ride as we learn more information. That's why I'm using this thread for these concepts and not the more active "footers" thread. This is just fun with "what if's" based on some recent known B&M Hyper coaster designs and the fact that B&M rarely repeats anything exactly.

At 160 feet, the extreme overbanked turn banks the track at 110 degrees. Just shy of considered an "inversion" and requiring an over-the-shoulder restaint system.

That's all for this round. I'm going to try to produce a few renders against some actual park photos and maybe an on-ride POV video later this week. Shortly after that we most likely won't need any of these conceptual coasters to paint the future of Carowinds. May 26 2009.

Based on the parks history I tend to agree with you. I expect a more La Ronde Goliath sized ride. Unfortunately Carowinds has a trend of installing second-hand or cookie cutter rides. Its been so bad that I haven't been to the park in over 20 years. However, CF's comments on the park's growth potential caught my ear and this ride will be telling. Carowinds not a bad park and with the installation of a truely world-class coaster it could begin to break out into a larger regional draw. My concept represents that kind of vision. But without that investment, there's nothing stopping people who live three-hours away from the park from going in the other direction to SFoG, KD, or BGW.

I hope when the layout is released you will go in and create it. Can/are you going to do a Intimidator 305 re-creation... I would try but I am not good at no limits at all....

Hey guys thanks for the kind complements!

I just found Ollie's No Limits Ride Exchange a week ago. Haven't had the time to really do much of anything beside register there. TBH, my focus on this build was for this site. But I think it will make it to the ride exchange at some point. I'll wait and see what the new ride's name is going to be. If its "White Lightning" I'll probably change the name of my NL coaster before I put it up. If the real ride is named something like "Intimidator230", I'll leave the coaster I created as White Lightning.

I'm probably going to pass on Intimidator305. But when they announce the Carowinds ride I'll try to model it in No Limits fairly quickly for everyone here.
