Hello again, I live about 1.5 hours away from Shelby, NC and had never driven over for their annual fair so I decided to finally check it out.

For a county fair it was ok, but nothing that great as far as rides. Going on a Thursday night, I thought it wouldn't be that crowded, but boy was I wrong.

Image
Welcome to the fair! This is apparently their 85th year too! I'd love to see some of the rides that have run here the last 85 years.

Image
Hmmm..what be this?

Image
It's been to West Virginia, so it must be a....

Image
coaster of course! What? You thought I was going to do a WV joke? Never would I do such a thing!

Image
Coaster, Racing Coaster. That's my name.

Image
Can I get a large pizza delivered to the fair, in front of the Racing coaster?

Image
Clowns, Why did it have to be clowns?

Image
They had an older style wheel, but it wasn't working.

Image
Rip off games of course were present.

Image
Ah, so this is where Dr. Evil hid the mojo.

Image
Pharaoh looks like he could use some mojo. Looks a bit effeminate to me.

Image
Super Cat! Away!

Image
I'm confused. Is Super Cat a worm by day, Cat by night?

Image
As I was riding solo, I still didn't have to ride the death trap.

Image
Speaking of traps. What a joke of a ride. Looks like a haunted house, but it's one long room with switch backs and mouse trap sounds. LAME!

Image
That's about how I looked when I got out of the ride.

Image
I will name him Mini Mouse!!!

Image
This evil looking contraption looks like it would make me barf in no time flat. Skipped.

Image
I don't think Spidey would like being called a tramp.

Image
Bear affair? What, does it try to have sex with you while you ride?

Image
Something ain't right about this drop tower.

Image
Not much of a whore anymore. Skipped.

Image
You thought I was joking about it being crowded didn't you?

Image
Up they go!

Image
Hey I can go up too!

Image
This is how close I could get to Racing Coaster. Better not tell any kids that go to Six Flags Over Georgia.

Image
Ah, the sign of quality.

Image
Freak Out was freakishly short.

Image
Bill would not approve.

Image
Yeah, can I get a footlong with extra cheese? What do you mean this isn't Firehouse Subs?

Image
Apparently someone needs to explain the meaning of "Self-Serve" to these people. Self-serve means that you go up and buy the tickets and get them yourself. Not from someone sitting in a booth!

And that's about it. The video will come soon, but I've got a busy weekend ahead of me and I'll get to it soon enough.

Thanks for reading.

Always love seeing fair pics. I use to make the pilgrimage to Shelby every year just to ride the Racing Coaster . Once they stopped bringing it, I stopped going.

For those that don't know, the Racing Coaster is a nice little steel coaster known as a Flitzer. It was designed by the famed Anton Schwarzkopf, best known for his looping steel coasters such as the Mindbender's at SFoG & Edmonton Mall, Revolution at Magic Mt, Jet Stars, Jumbo Jets, and tons of other (too many to list).

So, if you want to ride a fun little classic coaster, it's worth checking out, if anything for historical purposes. Glad to see they brought it back and thanks for the pics Wes.

I'm glad to see someone confirm that Flitzer was designed by Anton. I know it was made and sold by Zierer, but I knew I'd read that Anton designed it. Reithoffer owns 2, Racing and Indy 500, both of which I've ridden at the WV State Fair. This looks like the same midway we get (most of it anyways). They switch out the Flitzers between their 2 big troupes.

Oh, and BGWFreak, Super Cat(erpiller) ;-)
