I've always thought about this, but in this phtoto of the Powder Keg Flume in 1973, if you look just past the first drop, the flume track actually rises back up after the drop in a Roller Coaster-like dip. (No, it is not the camera angle-that entire section is straight track)

Does anybody know when this element was removed? Did boats ever get stuck in it? Did it add to the ride much?

I know there are a few other log flumes out there that feature similar dips and hills, but I thought it was neat that our log flume had one.

They should of left it, it looks like a good element to the ride. With the height of the drop it looks like it might of got stuck sometimes. You need a old person to tell you that, who has been there in 1973 or so.

Are you certain that is not an optical effect. When I look at it one way I see a dip, then again, it looks like it's just going out into the distnace flat then turning a bit. Do you have a current pic close to the same angle so we can compare better?

Are you talking about the drop after the first lift hill or the dip in the middle of the ride?

Yes, I use to love the coaster-like hill on the Powder Keg Flume. I'd like to know exactly what year they changed it too. I was told in the early 80's. For those that can't see it, I've labeled the photo. Compare it to the 2003 aerial. you can plainly see the difference.

Oh I see it now, WHY'D THEY REMOVE IT!!! lol, i wonder why they removed it, It might be because too many boats didn't make it up the hill and got stuck beetween it.

Or was it because boats were getting too much "air time"? ;)

How exactly was the drop modified? Is there no dip at all now? Is it just a straight section of track?

It is just a straight line

There still is a drop there, but now it's just a normal one.

Anyway, I imagine that boats could get stuck if there was not enough speed, or maybe there was a pump there that the park didn't like to maintain.
