General Carowinds discussion

I haven't been to Carowinds since 1992 but I found this board and it has renewed my interest in the park.

My question is does anyone remember the old light-gun shooting galleries that the park used to have? If I remember correctly, you paid a quarter and shot a rifle at various animatronic figures. For example if you shot the small target on the back of the piano player he lifted his head up and started playing a tune until somebody shot the target again and he would stop. I was just curious what happened to these and how long has it been since they were removed? There were probably one my favorite memories of the park from when I was younger.

The shooting gallery in Carolina RFD remained in the park until last year, where a caricature shop was put in its place as a part of renovating the Nick Central area. I'm surprised it lasted so long, as the light-gun galleries are well outdated and probably hard to maintain; the new ones use lasers. I'll always miss being able to set all of them off at once though with a camera flash :P .

In memory of this i must say that once when i was playing it i shot one of the birds hanging from the roof and when i shot it everything and i mean everything started going off for about 20 or 30 seconds. At that point i was looking around all paranoid and everthing. Defect ? I dont know maybe but i know it wasnt suppose to happen.

I always love to do the shooting gallerys whenever I'm at a park. They get addictive!

Anyway, not that many are left. Dollywood removed theirs a few years back as well.

I also enjoyed these, but they hadn't been worked on in years (or at least it looked that way). I bet they weren't making much money off it any more.

In it's early days, it would have been like a really cool thing. But what person today wants to shoot a light gun, when they've got an XBox at home???

That's not my opinion of it, that's just probably what has happened. It just wasn't that exciting any more.

I hadn't played them in several years myself

Speaking of Video Games and laser guns, does anybody remember Duck Hunt for NES? I use to spend hours playing that!

Haha, DuckHunt was great! That was the first nintendo game I ever really played. I loved that orange gun and how it magically worked with the tv and everything! Haha, actually, we still have it...I might get that out later! :P

My brother had an Atari, but he sold it. That was back when I was three or four. I myself am a child of the NES reign :)

It was pretty worn out by the time it left our household.
