The 2009 wood poll is now open. For the uninitiated, this is generally considered to be the best ranking of roller coasters. Unlike other polls (see Golden Tickets) that are merely a popularity contest, Mitch's poll takes into account all of the rides each voter has been on and ranks every ride head to head with every other ride. Unfortunately, by removing the popularity factor, you are opening up the ability for a small group of people to skew the poll, but this was never a problem until last year when people from a certain website that runs trips to foreign parks for exorbitant sums of money pushed a ride to #1 with only 14 voters. I still say overall it's the best thing out there by far, but you do have to make sure when you look at the results that you see how many people actually rode a coaster.

I don't think I'll ever fill out the steel one again. Too impossible for me to compare all the different styles and all the cookie cutter rides I've been on, plus I just don't care as much like I do about wood.

FWIW I did mine the old fashion text way, with a little help from microsoft excel.

I find it easy voting but once you get so many it becomes a pain in the behind and I mean we all know what is going to be the #1 ranked woodie is in Holiday World because that park caters to us. And some unknow Woodies will rise up and be ranked due to varies trips by varies clubs and etc. Just another poll but abit more so called reliable poll.

As you can probably tell from my personal rankings, I dont care much for Stand-up and Vekoma Family Suspended Coasters...lol My top favorites consist of Inverted and Floorless types mostly. 7 of my top 10 are B&M.
To those who don't know, the totals vary from my coasterfanatics count due to defunct coasters and a few that some parks are counted as 2 (i.e. Rebel Yell).

If you want to get "complicated" just do this:
1) Take the wood ballot
2) Copy and paste into notepad (not Word or Wordpad or anything else, NOTEPAD)
3) Delete all lines for coasters you haven't ridden
4) The first "n" turn to "y" (therefore every coaster left should start with "y")
5) The second "n" change to "y" ONLY if you have ridden it this year
6) The zero you change to your rank- 1,2,3,4 etc or 1,1,1,2,2,2,3,3,3 etc
7) E-Mail Your Ballot To wcoasterpoll@yahoo.com Subject:Wood Poll Ballot (Subject: Steel Poll Ballot if that is the one you are doing)
!) Important note, do not change the names or parks for any of the coaster lines


You do pretty much the exact same thing for the steel ballot, or you can use CoasterFanatics helper here, http://www.coasterfanatics.com/sec_poll/, and the deadline for this one is December 10th which is this coming Thursday. I will be happy to answer any more questions until then, or you can peruse the lengthy instructions.
