Today was the first day of the Discovery Channel's "coaster phobics" shoot at the park. All that happened today were taped interviews with the "phobics" and coaster enthusiasts. Tomorrow is the actual class and riding session that will serve as graduation for the students.
Even though everybody was excited about the special, the real excitement was over getting to see Borg Assimilator. It didn't disappoint.
I'll be the first to admit that I had my doubts about the move of Stealth from PGA to our park. After seeing the job that the park has done with the coaster, those doubts are gone. Scott Anderson was right. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. In fact, everybody who went on the trip to see it, as we were leaving the park, was totally suprised. I didn't hear a single bad thing said about Borg Assimilator.
Even though they're still not finished with the Borg Sphere, its an incredible sight to behold. It sits in the area behind the rethemed resturant in Nick Central. Its huge. The trains will come into close contact with it before heading into the final corkscrew run.
The whole coaster just looks spectacular sitting there in its new location. The queue lines and exit ramp will bring riders into very close contact with the track. When the water is piped back into the lake, the trains will come very close to it. The pathway that connects the front of the park to the back is going to be very nice. It is where the boat dock use to be and comes out next to the games arcade in Carolina RFD (where the basketball game use to be.) Words can't begin to describe the coaster. The color scheme is great and very catchy. I could elaborate more but....You'll just have to see for yourself the changes brought about because of our new addition come March 20th.
Vortex is in the process of being painted and it looks really nice. Almost didn't recognize it with its new spiffy paint job. Top Gun's red train has new black seats. I'm assuming the yellow train will have them too. Several of the riders were testing. It was funny to see Reptar's train go though its course without its harnesses. We begged to ride it that way but no go.
Things are looking really good around the park.
As some of you have heard, people attending the shooting can take pics but can't post them on the 'net until after opening day. The park wants to keep the Borg Sphere a surprise. Take it from me....you'll be surprised. I know I was.
Welcome to the Carolinas, Borg Assimilator!
