I was thinking that they might have been an early investor in the park when it was being built or something. (As usual, I could be wrong.) I went and looked over the history of the park on the Carowinds website and didn't see any mention of Duke Power.

The 1973 brochure does show a Raccoon, Lion and Pig characters. I suppose they were the official mascots until the Hannah-Barbera characters came in 1975.

Some other interesting tidbits about the park...it was originally supposed to be a several thousand acre project that would be built in phases. Some of the things never built were a large, water front community (some 3 or 4 hundred houses, I believe), a sports arena (I am guessing they wanted a pro football team because it was said the owners wanted the 50 yard line on the state line), and a huge hotel/resort that would have been built where Crossroads Mall is now, they wanted the monorail to go from the hotel to the park and back.

I looked it up and it really was Ricky the Racoon! The mystery solved.
