General Carowinds discussion

What do we all think boos blaster on boos hill will be based on. Are they just taking out scooby related themes or changing it over all. Does it have anything to do we snoopy. Has anybody heard and thing on the action theater movie. Can't wait for carowinds to open for the season.

Don't be so surprised if AFX does not open this year. The sister parks are not listing them on their site, which would lead one to speculate that they are not opening at all. The Spongebob 3D movie at all of the old paramount sister parks has been taken out obviously due to the ending of the licensing contract. Because the movie is being taken out, it is unclear as to the true stance of Cedar Fair on motion simulator films. As far as Boo Blasters, I can tell you that there were some PR, maintenance, and management people that visited the ride during the summer. It is unclear as to why they were there, but it could have something to do with the Nick/Peanuts switch, but again unclear and unfounded. If I had to bet on any particular choice, I would say that a complete re-themeing of the ride would happen for one reason, Scooby Doo. The ride when it was SDHM revolved around Scooby Doo and dropping you into the story of the Mystery Inc. Crew. If you were to leave everything on the inside but only take out Scooby characters and items, well first of all the ride would be quite bare, but to add further the ride would make no sense. It would honestly not surprise me if the ride did not open until later on in the season because a lot of work will need to be done, from paint, from electrical wiring of effects, to rebuilding the cars on the track (won't be able to have a Mystery Machine look-a-like now), and basically completely redesigning the whole ride. Sure it might have the same track layout but nothing should be the same on it. I hope this answered your question.

A few other parks I have been to have had the shooting dark rides that are the exact same layout as ours, minus the Scooby Doo characters. All they would really have to repaint the "mystery machine" cars, take out Scooby and Shaggy (and Fred, Daphne and Velma where they appear) and then replace them all with generic spooky/haunted things. Not an impossible feat.

As for the Action Theater I hope its demise is imminent.. it is outdated, unsightly, and is blocking a path to possible expansion behind Thunder Road.

I think only taking out half of the building would be cool. Yeah I understand what yall are saying about curb appeal but seriously when its 120 out in the sun, and you dont want to be squeezed like a zit trying to get wet in the water park or water rides, its kinda refreshing.

BUT

Its not blocking the way for future expansion. If future expansion happens in that direction then South Gate would be gone and the path between T-Road and AFX would be utilized (as it is now its barely noticeable only because there is a giant fence blocking the way that goes down to a storage shed).

Now I will say that it does seem out of place in an area themed to being in a County Fair. I can understand Yo-Yo, Dodgems', Southern Star, even Thunder Road (races at the fair) but a movie theater is never at a County Fair (not one that I have ever seen at least).

My vote for most out-of-place attraction would be the one based on a movie about the Navy Fighter Weapons School that has always been listed as being part of Carolina RFD. What F-14 Tomcats flying out of Fightertown USA in California have to do with the rural Carolinas I've yet to figure out.

Of course this wasn't anything unusual for Paramount. There's a winter-themed bobsled coaster in the Congo section of KD, close to a UFO themed ride, and I think Canada's Drop Zone was plopped down in a Medieval themed section.

The thing is about that. The ride's description still says "Take the plunge with SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom pals into a 3-D action-adventure at the Carowinds Action Theatre" I have a feeling that it is going to closed for good here pretty soon. I would love to see the building itself leave the park. It is an eyesore. Its only good for Scarowinds. And besides that, I would love to see future expansion there and past Thunder Road.

The most common use for the parking lot near Thunder Road's turn around is storing track pieces for new rides etc. It does come in handy on summer days were the park receives a lot of guest though. It just isn't used a lot though. I'm doubting that they will remove any more parking since they removed a proportion of it when building Intimidator. All of the parking by Thunder Road will probably come to handy during the summer. So once again, I doubt that they will remove that as well. I don't know if they would happen to remove the action theatre , if they would expand out to the parking lot, which I am doubting.

The only use for the parking at the very end of Thunder Road's turn around is for placing things like track pieces for rides. I'm doubting that they will ever remove any park since they got ride of a large proportion for Intimidator.

Please explain your thoughts clearly as it is extremely hard to comprehend misspelled words and sentences that make no logical order or sense. "I is not you language understand" is harder to comprehend than "I do not understand the language in which you are speaking". Thank you.

I must of been thinking of something else when I was typing. I remember what I meant... I'm not sure why I put that though. It seems I started to type one sentence, didn't finish it and mixed it with the next. Sorry... Anyways, I fixed it.

Thank you I was tryin to read it the first time and I was like "huh?".

Anyways I agree with what you are saying about the parking lot beside T-Road being good only for storing new track pieces. But I kinda think they could just do what they have done in the past. For instance when Borghawk was being installed the track pieces were kept on the hill infront of the Northgate. I don't really think that would become an issue if expansion was to go that direction.

I still firmly believe that Plaza de Fiesta should be bulldozed and the park should expand in that direction....as was the original plan under Pat E. Hall. Maybe its just me but when I look at parks like KI and KD and CP, I kinda get jealous because they have soo much land and everything is kinda just spread out, rather than being stacked up on each other the way that Carowinds is. Those parks have enough land to make the park feel relaxed and big, but Carowinds I often find myself feeling that the park is cramped into a tiny space.

How many of you see the potential of an indoor coaster in the 3D Theater? The building could definitely be expanded if needed.

@rcdifreak - What would be the daily costs of running the AC if that building were converted into an indoor coaster? It obviously already has the capabilities of running the AC, but how different would it be if all the walls were taken out and the if the building was possibly expanded?

If you look at the cost/benefits (keeping in mind that the coaster has to be very exhilarating and entertaining), this is definitely the best thing to do with that building.

Actually I don't know that... I'm just making things up. :D But it seems like it would fill the space perfectly while fitting into the area quite nicely.
