Food or foe...

Ate in the park opening day and was not impressed. Honestly very disturbed. What do you feel about the food situation in the park this season?

It's the same as always I would say. It isn't as good as the cost you pay. Main reason I usually take my own food, especially when going with the family. We may get some fries here or there. Food could be better at some places then others, depends on the crowds and how long food sits out.
I will say this though, and it could be I was REALLY hungry since all I ate was some fruit all day, but the corn dog and fries I had over at the shop near the Red Barron was pretty good.

We ate at Wings, and while what I had (the "boneless chicken wings" that were actually just regular chicken wings) was decent, everyone else (especially those who had the pizza) was disgusted.

Don't forget about the bacon cheeseburger that didn't come with bacon. ;) Yeah, me and Wormy had the pizza...not impressed at all. I'm not even sure that was cheese on it. I was suprised I was able to eat it all.

I too had pizza and it was bad. The fries were quite good and hot, so all was not lost. I was going with the bony boneless wings but they didn't have any ready so I grabbed the pizza which was. I've had pizza at Wings and elsewhere in the park and while not the best I've ever had, it was far better than what I had Saturday.

I've always had good experiences with Outer Hanks - good portions, good food quality. Everyone always vetoes my suggestion of eating there though :P I've heard good things about the Panda Express and the restaurant near the skytower.

Maybe it's Wings that sucks.

Alright, I'll say it, but I'll censor myself.

The pizza tasted like ***.
It smelled like ***.
It looked like ***.
This is all I could get down of this *** pizza.

Horrid. How do you screw up crust, sauce, and cheese? They did. I don't expect much from amusement park food, but it was cold, greasy, and there's no way that was 100 percent cheese. If I wasn't so hungry I would have given up on it, but it set me back 4 bucks and change. Not good Wings, not good. I don't know about Papa Luigi's, but I have a feeling it will taste like *** too.

The Pib Extra was tasty.

We ate at the place by the Cobra... The Burger was nasty, The kid's Pizza sucked, but the Wings were tasty( only b/c they were fresh) I dont know what needs to happen. I know its opening day and all, but geez guys screwing up PIZZA?!?!?!

Hopefully they'll get it right... not counting on it tho..

Yep, that's Wings. Not sure how you can screw it up either, but they did.

I guess now I can say within the past year I've had the absolute best and absolute worst pizza of my lifetime. The worst? See above. The best? At an Italian restaurant next to my hotel in Washington DC this past August. Superb.

The sad thing is that excellent pizza only cost a bit over twice what Carowinds charged me for a piece of whatever that was I ate on Saturday...

My food ratings by park
Taste(Best to worst)
1) Six Flags Over Georgia
2) Tweetsie Railroad
3) Emerald Pointe
4) Carowinds
5) Freestyle Music Park

Value(best to worst)
1) Tweetsie Railroad
2) Emerald Pointe
3) Six Flags Over Georgia
4) Freestyle Music Park
5) Carowinds

Six Flags has the best food and they give you a ton of it, but it is as high as Carowinds. Tweetsie has the cheapest food and it is really good, they also give free food if you have to wait. Carowinds on the other is high-priced, they give you small portions and it is really nasty. Odd thing is, in 2005 they had good food.

Wow, glad I had the corn dog and fries. And it wasn't just a regular corn dog, it was one of those fat dogs. And it seemed to be pretty fresh and hadn't been sitting around long.

I had food from Wings last year once, and you could tell the food had been sitting around a while and not fresh at all. I don't know what their rules are, but I know at like most fast food rest. the burgers shouldn't sit there but about 20 minutes before they are scrapped. I'm sure that isn't the case at Carowinds. I don't mind paying alot for food at places like Carowinds, BofA Stadium, Time Warner Arena, but the food better as hell be good. I've had really good food at BofA(Bar-B-Que sandwich is off the chain), Carowinds has miles to go to get to that level. If Dick needs to know why spending in the park is down, all you gotta do is look at the food you are overcharging for and you'll get your answer.

Yep. I actually don't mind the prices. I have no problem spending similar or higher prices at Dollywood, Silver Dollar City, Busch Gardens, Holiday World (if I remember right), Knoebels (prices here are actually MUCH MUCH lower), Kennywood, etc. The difference is, their food is actually enjoyable, and in a few cases I listed is an attraction in itself.

Last time I ate at Carowinds (Sept '08 I beleve), I ate at Wings, which is my usual spot. I had a burger and fries and it was fine; nothing like y'all are talking about...lol I would agree tho, that it is a little high priced for what you get and it's not quite up to par with some other parks I've been too. Sea World Orlando, Busch Gardens Tampa and Williamsburg (in that order) all have much better quality (and similarly priced, tho I have a pass so it's discounted too...lol) than any I've been too so far. I guess too it just depends on what you are getting. I have been known to leave the park to eat depending on who i'm with to save $$$ and get better quality.

Haven't been yet this season, but I was quite surprised last year by the fish place over by the Goldrusher. The fish and shrimp were quite fresh, with a decent portion size for the $$$.

Actually, I tend to prefer the 99 cent menu at the Wendy's across the street to anything in the park (or a wonderfully packed cooler of drinks and luncheon meat). Now, if we are talking the best food that I have ever experienced in a theme park, that would be when I ate at King's Island in 2006. The fish place was a Bubba Gump Franchise and the Mahi-Mahi fish fillet sandwich was awesome. Good fries too. The fact that I remember a fish sandwich I ate four years ago should tell you how good it was! Also, BTW...it is still one of the few Paramount attractions still in Kings Island for a bit of history to boot.
