General Carowinds discussion

Hey everyone, my name is Rickey, and I'm new to the forum!

I've lived in North Carolina most of my life, and I've been to Carowinds and Kings Dominion a few times. But it's been about 3ish years.

I used to be scared of rollercoasters, until 2009, when I accepted the an internship with Disney. I started working in monorails, but then due to 'current events', I was offered a temp. transfer to the Rock'n'Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios. I am now in love with Coasters and theme parks :-D

You'll find that I love thrills, but I also appreciate the smaller things. I always say a ride is only as good at it's queue. :-D

Anyway, My favorite ride is the Carolina Goldrusher, It's the only ride that I was brave enough to do at Carowinds last time I went.

Finally, I actually do have a question. I'm going for a return trip next thursday. I know its going to be spring break for charlotte-meck schools, so it will be busier than normal, but can you compare going on a thursday of spring break to opening saturday? Which one would be busier? And by how much?

Any other tips are welcome too.

Keep on Rock'n

I wouldnt think it would be to busy, but I havent been during a spring break I dont think. I would think that any weekday will be a lot less crowded than on a Saturday. The biggest reason is because a lot of kids cant drive and their parents will be working.... I think a spring break day would be like a Sunday, not crowded at all. I will probaly be up there one day next week, if not tomorrow, and if I do I will post more details about how crowded it was etc. My guess is any day during the week would be good!

Ya. Imma look at the webcam on Monday, and thats gonna judge if im going or not. The good news is good weather forcasted all week. Which can kinda be a negative though, cuz that brings the crowd out.

WHEW! It was very hot today and pretty crowded. By 11am the season pass lot was full (or it looked that way from sky tower). They even opened the other gate, I havent seen that gate open for a few years, I think they do open it on Saturdays but I always go Sundays. Anyway, pretty crowded today but still good intimidator ridin fun. I am just wondering if it was more crowded today because a lot of people are off work or what. I would say Tuesday-Thursday will be less crowded next week, but I dont know. Overall it was an OK day, just very hot.

How was Intimidator riding? Curious to see how much faster it feels with the hot weather.

All I know is the second string ride crew needs to step it up a notch. I saw more than one train go out with seats empty and the single rider line was still full. They were stacking trains a lot -- more than once I saw a train in the station, one behind the station, and one on the brake run. I know these folks are normally on the bench, but maybe they'll get better with some PT.

I was looking for an answer to this as well. Does anyone know how crowded it is during spring break week? I understand this year will be different, but going on past experiences, does anyone know?

Trains don't get full for several reasons and calling us "second string" does not help any either.
1. People are told to go to certain numbers, but some of them suddenly can't count when they get to the ride and wonder off to unassigned seats.
2. Guest with big thighs, who didn't see the tester seat at the entrance or who are embarrassed to sit in it after it has been pointed out to them, have to then brave everyone looking at them exit the station because their restraint would not lock, leaving empty seats behind, and holding up the loading and unloading trains.
3. Many times, the friends of the people too large for the seat will also exit with them, leaving even more empty seats.
4. Groups who go up the single line, thinking they are riding together, get split up, don't like it, and still team up and ride together anyway, throwing the seat organization off.
5. People who create confusion with the ride associate by continuously requesting a certain seat after they've been told it's impossible to fill every one's request, but they still want to stand there demanding their rights, which holds up the line and the ride attendant can't get every seat filled for each train.

We are truly sorry for disappointing you while you waited in line; but now you have new insights that will help you have more patience while you wait next time.

What I requested during training, along with a few other coworkers, is to allow our guest to sit where they want. "Nope, that is not Carowinds' procedure," was the reply. In order to allow free seating they have to take away the Single Rider Line. If they take away the Single Rider Line every seat will not be filled on each train, which is the main goal of having the Single Rider Line in the first place.
