Normally this week would be pretty rough with the wait. However, I just got back from SFOG to get in some coaster rides so I have a head start on some of you guys
It was fun and I was glad they were open earlier than Carowinds. I'll say that I can't WAIT to get back to Carowinds since "our" park is run SO much better it's not even funny. For example, EVERY coaster today was running one train - even the B&M's. I've never seen Vortex with one train, and Top Gun just a handful of times when one train was broken. Season Pass processing was a disorganized mess, where Carowinds' is run extremely well, etc. It was fun due to several of their rides being very good - just wish they ran the park better.
I'm very anxious to compare BORG to Superman:Ultimate Flight. Carowinds doesn't have too far to go to beat SFOG on flyer operations - S:UF broke down about every 2 trains they sent out - and this is it's 3rd year there. I think it was more reliable in it's opening season. We should have them beat in the theming / landscaping - S:UF has a number of spots where you swoop low to the ground, and they either had grass or gravel under them, or a covering over the queue line. I can only imagine a few of those on BORG with the water - that should be a blast. Ok we won't have a pretzel loop - still the most insane inversion I've experienced - but you can't have everything.
One funny thing was the pre-recorded station announcement called Superman "the South's only flying roller coaster" - my friends and I had to laugh, and say "yeah, for another week...."
Great American Scream Machine was painted in the exact same color scheme as Thunder Road used to be, with a new-for-2004 paint job. It makes me want to scream at someone at Carowinds to bring back the white structure, blue handrails, and red track. It really does look beautiful on a big woodie.
I'm glad coaster season has started, and will be even more glad in a very few days when Carowinds' coaster season starts
