General Carowinds discussion

Correct me if I am wrong, but Goldrusher is the only piece of the original Carowinds left. Many people do not even know if its existence in the park. What is going to be the fate of poor Goldrusher? Will it be destroyed for something new, or will it be rebuilt and possibly have something added to draw attention?

I really do not see goldrush going anytime soon just because it has to much history and there is nothing wrong with it and does not cost much to run like some of the water rides that have been and gone.

Goldrusher is one of four original rides, with the fourth being Shortline Express currently knowns as Snoopy Junction. There was a rumor back in 2008 that Log Flume had had it's last season and Goldrusher's last season is 2010, seeing the truth to one part makes the second part look more possible. However, I have been told not to buy stock in this being Goldrusher's last season.

I would definitely hate it if this rumor were to come true at anytime. It was the first coaster I was brave enough to get on without coaxing and liked...lol It was my favorite steel at the park for a long time; that is until Top Gun..eh..Afterburn opened.

Opening day it had a pretty big line, so people still know about it. I don't foresee its demise anytime soon.

Oh, i forgot that sky tower and the railroad were a original attractions, and I did not know that scrambler was a original, I am glad to see there are a few originals left.

I wouldn't want it to go. I honestly think they should just redo the ride itself as in theming. The layout and track is fine, but they could add some details and give the ride a face lift. That's my opinion.

I agree, they should just go crazy with mine theming and it would be fantastic. It's my 3rd fav coaster there and It better not be going anywhere. I could ride it all day.

I agree with Whitesoxsfan21, the ride needs a refurbishment. The track layout is fantastic - however, it seems as if the coaster is out of place with the larger roller coasters looming around it. I think they should plant some trees to block some of the view of Vortex and Borg (it will never be Nighthawk...). Also, they should put in some classic mining/farming equipment here and there, or maybe just good landscaping. I don't know. The ride has such a potential - the only thing it lacks in my opinion are the stupid restraints. They have you crammed in there like a sardine... It's only enjoyable for kids.

A refurbishment is all this ride needs to host relaxing experiences for those who want to take a break from the intensity of the bigger rides.

Well the coaster was well hidden before Borg (nighthawk) was born. Before that there were tons of trees and you couldnt see it at all. Now when you walk under nighthawk you get a nice view of it. I think they just re-painted it a couple years ago to that greenish brown color or whatever. I dont think it needs any refurbishment. The ride is meant to look old, like a mine train would be. I think a refurb would make it to new for a "gold rush" theme. I do agree that more themeing could be used, but I just dont see where or what would make it to much better than it is now. I remember when it was over the water, that really added character to the ride. Oh well, I dont see gold rusher goin anywhere in the near future either. I see more of expanding than taking anything else out, unless they get smart and take some games or other junk out, but that is just there money makers. Oh well hopefully we can get some clues to what or if anything is planned for next year at coasterstock... :D

Refub doesn't always mean making it look new again. In my opinion, all Goldie needs for the park to let the area under and around Goldie become overgrown to the point that the ride is more hidden. I also think that the trains should be painted back to the original colors. Also, place some faux vines on the lantern poles on the lifts. EDIT: As of 2008, the lanterns were removed from lift 2 but still on lift 1. Does anyone know the purpose of the tunnel like area on "helix" 1? And why it was never covered?

Goldie SHOULD still be a 40" height ride. However, to be consistent with other CF parks with their similar mine coasters, I suppose that was the criteria for raising the limit. All of my crew is now 54" or taller, so no problem, but it is supremely disappointing for the height criteria to be set so high on this fun little coaster...

Do ya mean 48"? Thats what C.com and the Rider Safety Chart shows, but it could be wrong.

The manufacturer's requirements may have changed, not to mention the insurance companies could have forced a change in height requirement. When it comes to deciding height requirements, the park is pretty far down the list.
