Does anyone know why White Lightnin' was removed? Even to this day those are such fun rides. I remember me and my brother were afraid to get on Thunder Road when we were little, yet we rode white lightnin'......And looking back, white lightnin was a bit more of a thrill than thunder road. My brother and I both had a thing for big drops (being scared of them)......He would not get on Carolina Cyclone in the early 80s (yet he rode white lightnin)......To this day he will NOT get on a thrill ride, it absolutely scares him to death......I was somewhat scared of them when I was little, but now they can't build them big enough. I remember when Viper was at SFoG for a time, and it brought back memories of white lightnin. Even to this day, it's still considered a decent thrill ride. At Knots Berry Farm (Montezuma's Revenge I think) and people still scream like girls when that thing takes off......I LOVE the boomerang coaster too, but the Giant boomerang from Vekoma just looks insanely intense.....I still can't figure out why SFMM kept Deja Vu when the other Six Flags got rid of theirs. Silverwood in Idaho bought it and installed it and it's running MUCH better (from what I've learned). I think Vekoma did a software update or something to make it more reliable. It must be or I wouldn't think Silverwood would have purchased something so riddled with problems.

maybe since the B&M guy is coming to speak the next coaster will be a Beemer! Isn't that how it works?

Okay, so lets add this up. Vortex+Afterburn+Intimidator= 3 B&M Coasters. So does that mean will we get 2 more B&M coasters before we get a new (not used) Vekoma, our first Intiman or, one of the other coasters mentioned earlier?

I'm a little confused with the Intamin dislike. Sure, their rides don't have great capacity, they aren't very reliable, and their safety record isn't spotless, but the coasters they make are thrilling and fun. My top three coasters are Intamin made(even if I've ridden less than 40.) . I'd love to have a Maverick or Millennium Force type coaster at Carowinds. Even though the wait might be up to an hour, to me, it'd be worth it. They're just that good. Still though, I'd rather have a wooden one here first.

I happen to like Intamin coasters, but quite a few people here seem to think that ONLY a new Intamin coaster would do for getting a new steel coaster. I don't believe that's true at all.

I'd be delighted if Carowinds' next coaster was a Maveric clone, or even something like El Toro, which is still Intamin. But there are other great coaster manufacturers out there that make rides that I'd like to try out too.

I havent ever rode an intamin coaster, so I dont know how much I like or dislike. I just know that from what I have read and seen etc, it just doesnt seem that intamin is as good as B&M an some others. I think intamin just trys to hard to be the most thrilling with the tallest and fastest coasters on the planet. Its going to be something to see when they open the F1 coaster in Abu Dhabi (at ferrari world), seeing how its going to be the fastest coaster, ever, I think it will be a flop if you ask me but I would love to ride it lol. Its pretty bad when you have to wear safety glasses on a roller coaster though..... Oh well, I think if intamin would spend a little more time on development, maybe they would avoid all the problems they do have. It seems like intamin is the microsoft of coasters, they always release to earlier and end up with a lot of problems and have to make patches to fix them.... Oh well, I do like a lot of the designs that intamin has made and hopefully very soon I can go to cedar and ride a lot of the intamins just to see how they are.

Dude, you answered your own question with the 3 main points. I wouldnt say intamin dislike but its like expect the unexpected when I hear them announce a large coaster lol...

Like Jay said, companies do what the parks want. As far as the design of the layout of the ride, up until around the year 2000, the same company designed the rides for both Intamin and B&M (and still design for Intamin and loads of other companies).

B&M have thusfar came out with 7 different full products (Not counting the wooden trains on Psyclone). They worked at Intamin beforehand, IRRC. They have simply gone a different route and stayed with coming up with products that they were sure would work. Look at the rides they've done. The hyper, Standup, sitdown, and floorless aren't very ground breaking, they just came up with some new train designs. The inverted coasters were ground breaking when they debuted, but it took almost a decade for them to debut an actual 'new' type of coaster in the vertical drop coaster, where the only groundbreaking elements were a brake to hold the rolling stock, and the rolling stock itself.

Then, 10 years after the inverted coaster debuted, they debuted a flying coaster, which had already came out from other companies, but B&M seems to like to take more time to work on a concept and get it right.

Intamin has lots of different concepts and products. Sometimes they come out with something so ground breaking that even with building a prototype, the actual model (think TTD) is so huge and the scope so big, that it takes a while to get it working correct. But that is what the park asks for.

Personally, I have 2 Intamins in my top 10, and the first B&M shows up at #14. I like both companies, but when Intamin does something they're used to, like a simple hyper or wooden coaster, or something not quite as ambitious, the coaster is fine (Esp. now that they have their restraint issues worked out).

Yes, I agree that they give the parks what they want. I guess its just all the "poor" and unfortnate things that have happend with the intamin coasters. It is what it is. Its just like saying for is better than chevy or vice versa, but all in all they all have basically the same type of things. I just cant judge intamin based on actual experience, because I havent rode anything from them. I guess its just some of their products seem not fully tested or something, but most likely they were. I guess you cant depend on computers etc to provide a 100% accurate model of anything. Oh well, I just gotta get to some more parks and ride some of their coasters and see what they are like, along with a lot of those other german manufacturers.
