Yes. Carowinds was NOT the first park to install a waterpark. Cedar Point Soak City opened in 1988. Geauga Lake opened their original waterpark in 1983.

You know it was low capacity, but was a crowd pleaser. I always loved the noise it made, it use to be right outside my office and had fun many times going round on it.

Yes-- it was a combination of the addition of the water park and the fact that it was a maintenance nightmare that made removal an easy decision.

White Lightnin' was amazing. It was a short ride, but it was a great experience. Looping with a lapbar Climbing up the 1st spike with only the sky in front of you and then that perfect moment of weightlessness when the train switched directions. It was perfect how it was build over water. When you rode the monorail, you could just see the train goin through the loops and up the spikes above the trees.

That was one of the nicest areas of the park where White Lightnin' was. Shame it gave way to an asphalt covered water park.

Unfortunately my first trip to Carowinds was in 2000 so I didn't get to rid some of their classic rides that have long since gone.
