We arrived at the park about 1130, but the crowds were nonexistent. We started by getting on the death-defying sky tower (would be great if it were changed to flapjack where it would flip when it got to the top of the pole...), checked out the ducks (my special needs son loves to see them). We walked over to thunder road, waited through a turn so the boys could ride on the front car. then walked onto afterburner with all four of us on the same row (love that ride now). then off to the rip roaring rapids (i was surprized to see that the turnstill heck had been removed so no surprize line), had a 5 minute wait there and the gentleman working the ride were very nice and told me to inquire about a handicapped permit for my son. I hate to do that, he is very very mobile and he really does not mind waiting,,, he had waited 2 hours with his aide to ride the rapids before (i draw the iine at 30 mins for a ride usually lol).

Went on to the scrambler, walked on there ate some pretty good chili cheese fries then hit the hurler (no funny comments there :) ) for a 2 ride visit. After we were finished we went to mooresville to hit the red robin.

Had a great time! Looking forward to hitting scarowinds in a week or so

Thank you for sharing. My son is also special needs but can walk short distances to get onto rides where we usually have to assist him on and off. Other than that we have a wheelchair for him. I'm slightly concerned about pavers going in and how they will affect wheelchairs, but I suppose Carowinds has taken that all into account.

We will be going in a few weeks for our first time since 2006 and I've been concerned about how the new ownership is for those of us that have special needs children. Thank you for the information you provided as it has helped put me at ease more, now. He is very excited since I told him we were going to go back to Carowinds this year; he just has to wait until next month.

Since I'm on this topic, we first exposed him to amusement parks at Carowinds. Since then, everything that has rides is called Carowinds to him. Disney, Dollywood, and Kings Dominion are all known as 'Carowinds' to him. :) He should be marketing for Carowinds.
