I'm sure that a few of you here watched the Grammys. I actually did this year for the first time, and only for one reason: to see Arcade Fire play and inevitably lose out on the top award to people who really weren't (in my opinion) that deserving. I didn't stick around long enough to see either of those things, so when I checked the news this morning I was shocked and ecstatic. I doubt that most of the rest of you really thought they should have won(except maybe Jonathan. I've seen his sig.), so what are your opinions on who should have taken album of the year(and any of the other awards)? Also, if you have no idea who The Arcade Fire are, I suggest going on youtube and trying out a few of their songs from Funeral, their first album. That's how I got hooked.

I was very happy they won (look at my twitter  ), but lets be honest. Arcade Fire isn't the tiny little indie rock band we fell in love with 6 years ago. Good read here: http://welistenforyou.blogspot.com/2011/02/arcade-fire-wins-best-album-of-year-why.html

http://whoisarcadefire.tumblr.com/ did provide the lulz for much of my day today however.

Arcade Fire may not be that tiny little rock band anymore, but in my opinion, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Their music quality really seems to be just as good as it was when they started, and if this fame doesn't mess with that, I'll be rooting for them at any award show they're nominated in. It's less about the fact that they're a small indie act for me, it's the fact that they're genuine. They write their own stuff, their songs aren't mindless(Everything by pop stars, anyone?), and they seem down to earth. Again, if they can retain all that even while getting bigger and bigger, awesome. As far as I can tell, they're doing a heckuva job with staying the way they were. And I totally agree, the Grammys are stupid. For the most part, winners only reflect who sold the most albums. My guess is that the only reason they won is because it was a split vote between the big names. The win means giant publicity for them, and with that comes sales, recognition, and people with horrible music tastes whining their butts off on twitter(which I find absolutely HILARIOUS). Long live the Arcade Fire described in this article: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/the-unstoppable-ambition-of-arcade-fire-20110214
