CoasterDad and/or arby: Have you been to Busch Gardens Williamsburg? Did you/your kids have a good time there?

I have not been there yet but it is high on my list of places to go. Anyone that I know who has been there says great things about it.

I have so many places I want to go, and only so much money in the budget to get there. If I wasn't following Dave Ramsey's money makeover program I'd be able to go there this year.

I've been there a few times and had a great time. Anyways as far as coasters go.. Apollo's Chariot is a good one, although I prefer Intimidator over it personally. Alpengeist is amazing, which I like just as much as Afterburn.. maybe even more. You also have Griffon there (which I haven't been on) and Loch Ness Monster is pretty cool. The Big Bad Wolf is unfortunately gone now, but that was a true classic. Wait until 2012 if you can, according to rcdb.com there is a multi-launch roller coaster under construction.

Plus they have great food and some of the best scenery.

As said, Dollywood is a decent park, and worth a visit, especially if you've never been. I've been twice, both times for a day and a half. We'll wait to return once their new coaster is ready next year. However, of the 24 parks I've now visited, it would be in my lower 50%, if not my lower 25%. This is only my opinion, though, and everyone enjoys the parks for different reasons and atmosphere. Yes, it has great personel and atmosphere. I, too, admire Dolly!

Yes, we've been to Busch Gardens Williamsburg once and Tampa three times, with a fourth visit on tap shortly, once Cheetah Hunt is open. I would place BGW and BGT in our top 25%. Arby, I would put The Point at our top spot and you will need TWO days! We do tend to be a thrill-seeking family, having raised four thrill-seeking children(youngest is 9) who are dying to go to Vegas and take the big jump from Stratosphere - but the $100 price tag per person puts the brakes on it for my group. Of the parks we've visited, each has something unique and special about it, regardless of how the coasters are... we get excited about visiting any of them...

Forumula Rossa goes 170' off the ground...I'd say that's pretty high. It's only 30' short of being a hyper :).

As far as Dollywood, I love the park. Definitely one of my favorites ever. They have great quality rides, and now with the new thrill ride, they've rounded the park out very nicely. At this point, I don't care what they get, because I'll continue to go back year after year. Thunderhead is amazing, and the rest of the coasters are really fun for what they are.

And they have flats.

And shows.

And food.

And different types of attractions not found elsewhere.

And water rides.

And theming.

And dark rides.

Etc., etc., etc.

I'd gladly pay any amount to get in the park. It's definitely not for someone that is simply a thrill seeker as that type of person may get bored. But if you're looking for great rides, great theming, great shows, great (great!) food, and great atmosphere with great employees, Dollywood is hard to beat. And it's beautiful when the flowers are in bloom.

Not much of the park hasn't been completely re-done in the last 10 years, so overall everything feels very new. In fact, only about maybe 30-40% of the park hasn't been completely re-themed, and I'm talking about the areas by the carousel/train station, the 50's themed area, and Craftman's Vally. And to be honest, those areas don't need it.

I can't wait to see what they add next year. I hear rumblings of good things.

Something is afoot. I'm excited that when I finally get to Dollywood, it will be in high gear with the best rides.

I'm by far not an expert, but that is some WIDE track. Apparently its been there for a while.. I found evidence of its existence clear back to the first of the year.... Just comparing pictures of what I have seen to whats out there.. We'll find out soon enough

This is perfect timing with the ACE Convention here and Dollywood next year. 8)

That's my .01 on the matter.. :D

From the little bit of research I've looked into...it all points to being a B&M Wingrider (Wing Coaster)....we'll know sooner or later. Regardless if it is or not....I think I'll be planning a trip to Dollywood next year for sure.
I read the announcement would be in September.

I've never been to Dollywood, but I've always wanted to go. With a new B&M coming, I might get season passes for next year! Personally, I hope it's a wing rider. I want to ride Raptor so bad!!!

I really enjoyed dollywood. How do you know its a B&M!? I really hope so. I got a lot of pictures of the constuction stie when I was up there for thrills in the hills, the coaster is going to be HUGE from what it looks like. I may get to go to media day for the announcement of this ride, I really hope so anyway. I would love to be able to see what all has been done since thrills in the hills, since footers were dug when I was up there, I am sure by now concrete has started to show up...

Ah after some research I see that it might just be a B&M, now I am DEFINATELY going on opening day next year!! I would also guess a wingrider, as I had thought it may be the intamin launched wing rider type coaster....

You know the old saying... "Those that know, don't talk and those that talk, don't know." ;)

And this is a perfect time to point out that if you aren't in ACE, you might want to join before the ACE SE event there in November and especially before the ACE National event there in June 2012...
