Road Thunder Road for the first time this season. The new wood makes such a huge difference in making most of the ride smooth! The section of track on the first hill may give Intimidator a run for it's money for how smooth it is  Overall great job done by Cedar Fair and Carowinds over the off season!

The "New" Thunder Road is just plain great! The station also got a small refurbishment with a new "driver seat" area.

It's time for Hurler to get some treatment. More than just a new drop.

I didn't ride it, but it looks like Woodstock Express got some loving too.

I rode Thunder Road yesterday when we stopped by for a few hours and I was very disappointed. I don't know if it was the train that I was on, but the ride was still rough. It felt like one of the wheels was flat-spotted on the car we rode on.

Perhaps besides the new track, they should put some new trains on there.

Which side did you ride? When I first road it, only the blue side was running. It felt like the silver side was rougher. Also on the train. I choose to sit where I am not over a wheel axle, it makes the ride much smoother.

Sorry I overlooked this, picklesthedrummer. It was about the middle of one of the silver trains. We rode it again this weekend and were near the front of a silver train (2nd row) and it was noticeably better, actually quite enjoyable.

Once you find the smooth sweet spot on this ride, it turns into one of the favorites.

That's for sure. Once they are done with the multi-year overhaul, I think it will be more consistent in all spots in all of the trains.

We made a big mistake yesterday and went for a random mid-train seat on the silver side, row 9. This is the back seat of a car, which I guess put us in a particularly rough location. Anyway, after we went from the new wood to the old wood, we experienced a very rough ride that had my wife vowing to think twice before riding Tunder Road again. I told her we probably picked one of the roughest seats because I rode front seat on the silver side 3 weeks ago and it wasn't rough at all. So we'll give it another go in another seat next time.

Avoid row 9 on the silver side if you value your bones and vital internal organs. :)

Does anyone have any updates on the continuing re-tracking of Thunder Road? Just wondering what they may have done over the winter. Maybe some of the Windseeker "spies" have seen some new wood from the road behind the park?

From Carowinds' Facebook page it looks like they are working on the section past the section they did last year (just a little past the first drop).

Road Thunder Road today. Nicely done on the refurbishment. A noticeably smother ride.
